Then I notice this! Did a trip to Wallsall from Hackney, London and back on Sunday and reached up to 130 and 140 a few times. Maybe that did it, I don't know :o

I have heard good stuff on Pilot road 2's. Anyone know the cheapest place for it? Or something that you think is better please.

Got myself a Pair of Diablo Supercorsas for the Winter. £60 for a pair of scrubs. Will be interesting to see how they work when the current Qualifier RRs expire in a few hundred miles.


Otherwise, you can find Pirelli Diablo and Diablo stradas going pretty cheap (£80 or so for a rear), and the Stradas in particular are very good for wet Winter conditions.

Anybody who says they need anything better than a set of roadsmarts EVEN for spring/summer must enjoy giving their £££ to the respective tyre companies. I wouldn't notice the difference if I had more sporty rubber on my bike to be honest because I won't make use of their flickability or grip. My bike's set up pretty hard so when I'm hooning it, i tend to pick any line and stick with it... For which the roadsmarts give you nothing other than stability and feedback.

The reason WHY i had roadsmarts was also due to the fact I was covering 12k miles each year so it pays to get the longest lasting compound you can get. The carcass and construction is pretty good in comparison to some bike/tyre combinations I've had.

I had a 07 hornet hirebike whilst mine went in for its service yesterday and DESPITE having Avon vipersports, I just couldn't feel for its grip.

Certainly I'd say the roadsmarts will probably calm the flighty nature of the ninja and might be better for it on small A roads/B roads.

But that's just my 2 pence. Got an issue of RIDE when they compared roadsmarts to the GP Racer on the road and the roadsmarts came up on top in terms of lean angles, temperatures across its profile, and subjective rider feedback. They tested both tyres blind.

2CTs or Metzeler Sportec M5 Would be my choice of Winter tyre. Both less hard wearing than Roadsmarts or similar.

This topic is so boring now.

Only bad tyres ive had are a set of bt014's which seemed to take an age to warm up.

Everything else has been more than enough.

Will be using a set of Supercorsa scrubs this winter, had a set of Avon Viper supersports last winter, brilliant in the wet.

I've had Shitstone BT014's on my ZX6R.. Twitchy as sin and they got merked within 2.5k so I weren't happy! Decided to go to 020's and they were like dunlop's first generation of tyres.. a solid piece of vulcanised rubber.. no feedback, no feel, poor warm up times.

Dunslips did have a reputation ages ago but I'd put them bang up there. It depends on your type of riding but for 80% of conditions which most people tend to ride in, then sports touring tyres are the way to go. You're not going to be peg scraping or getting your knee down or sliding the rear out on a london commute now are you! Realistically COME ON!

Personal experience for me would suggest that the roadsmarts have the best "compromise" between feedback/grip and longevity and are competitively priced. People will fight their corner for the Pilot Road 2's and BT023's and rightly so. They're all good tyres.

It's also about finding the right tyre for the characteristics of the bike and your riding style. As i mentioned, I'd consider myself to be a bit of a smooth, unrushed rider where I don't generally flick the bike from side to side much. In which case the dunlops work the best on my blade. If anybody wants to give me 200 quid so that i can test another tyre and change my opinion then go ahead, but as it stands, roadsmarts are the only thing that will grace my bike .. unless i start doing trackdays where it would push the envelope of the tyres.

But get your facts right first Alex. I speak with 2 years of experience of using the tyre on 2 different bikes in rain, shine, snow and I WOULD NOT HAVE ANOTHER TYRE! Unless you cant read properly, the magazines HAVE suggested that they are as good a tyre FOR THE ROAD. I'm not the only person to rave about the roadsmarts but there is substantial evidence out there that you don't really need any more for the road.

There is that philosophy of guys that use track day tyres because they can get them cheap but unless you know a guy that can change your tyres FOC, having to replace a set every 2k miles instead of 7k makes a BIG difference £££wise.

I was always shocked by the state of the tires I've seen people actually claiming to have ridden on here but my lack of two wheel experience must have had a part to play because I thought I had another 3 or 4 weeks on my tires and was planning on replacing them due to them trying to go sideways every time its damp and taking forever to warm up. However when I got home today and stuck the chain through the back wheel I noticed this .....

Anyone know the tyres sizes?

A shop that does my MOT and specialises in tyres said that the front is a 65 and I can only get

Avon Vipers VP2 (£220 inc fitting)

or

Bridgestone 014 and back 016 (£235 inc fitting)

Some reason the roadsmarts and pilot road 2's wasn't an option because of the front sizing. Is that correct?

I should be running a 160/60/17 on the rear of the cbr, how ever for the miles i do i have opted for a 170/60/17.

I reckon that you can get away with a 120/70/17 on the front and a 160/60/17 on the back, possibly a 170/60.

Well I got a 160/60/17 roadsmart stuck on this morning and almost immediately had the opportunity to use it in the wet. I was taking it fairly easy as it's new rubber in the rain but noticed that it was a vast improvement over the d208, how much of that was down to the d208 being fucked I don't know but I have had so many slides on them I'm glad to see the back of that tire.

I have Pirelli Angels ST on my CBR, the two compound sports touring tyres the big names are making atm.

I like them, the angel pattern is gay but wears off pretty quick, had no twitchiness or lack of grip even in the pi$$ing rain.

Tyre sizes on your B1 should be 120/70/17 on the front and 180/55/17 rear.

I asked the tyre company why I can't fit another size and they said insurance will be invalid.

Corsa's are too soft and won't last, so I am debating Avon's or Bridgestone's.

Anyone know what will be the best on the road and last a decent amount of time?
