https://www.gumtree.com/london/73/67186273.html

Is this worth it for £100, and any ideas what could be wrong or how much it would cost to fix it up?

As they're on gumtree London, seems quite likely they're nicked. I do see a numberplate, but that doesn't mean much.

If you do the work yourself, it's probably going to be fairly cheap to fix up, but if you want it for reliable road use, can see it being quite a lot of work after the abuse it's no doubt endured.

Hmmmm, I see. Your probably right. Ideally I am avoiding a project, well I am willing to replace a tail light or indicator etc. But nothing too over the top.

I have no experience, yet for £100 seemed a worth a gamble.

Hmmm, if I did go for it, whet would I start. I assume the process would be to get a haynes manual, disassemble the bike, identified the broken parts, and replace them. How would I go about striping the engine. I mean I could possibly disassemble that too, but how do I clean it or remove/ deal with rust?

It definitely is a 'project', I'd say.

Ok I have done a bit more research, and probably could clean a carb and restore the metal using wire wool, sanding and some polishing. Clutch cables aren't too expensive either. What else do you think would need to do? Also I haven't been able to find out how to repair an engine. If this is shot (hopefully it isn't), what could I do? Various websites say find engine restorers. Does anyone know any in staffordshire?

Newcastle Under Lyme. I'd definitely take the risk if I knew I had people near me to call on for help Smile

Would certainly be worth buying for spares if you already had an RXS, but it's doubtful they'd be a good investment if you intend to end up with a road going bike from those two.

If there's no good, intact exhaust - forget it. They're very hard to come by at anything approaching a reasonable price, in half decent nick.

Cluster switch - frequently damaged in a crash, also prone to wear, exceptionally difficult to find in usable condition.

Seat - decent, non-rusted to buggery seats are scarce.

Everything else is pretty easy to get. If the two bikes had a good condition, unmodified pipe, switch and seat between them, go for it.

Ha this is an old thread 27cows. But thank you for your advice.

I have found now bought an rxs in much better condition for this. I am meeting the seller again soon, to talk about price.

Old Thread Alert!
