Hi everyone, my 2001 nsr 125 has just been rebuilt, on start up it ran fine but i went to start today and it started to rev high , i took the airbox off to see if throttle cable was stuck it was not then it revs up to the max the throttle is closed i hit the kill switch turn off with key and pulled the ht lead off it is still running at full revs i then stuff a bit of rag over carb and it dies down and turns off this bike has been derestricted and previously ran fine....... please help regards archie

The spring loaded slide with the needle attached, did you find the notch that it slides down to the bottom onto the idle screw?
Rebuilt engines always require the idle screw turning anti clockwise.
Do it with your fingers.

Also get the carb tuned or find out what the carb stock settings are and set it your self.

Sounds like the carb slide is in wrong as has been said above.

Take a look at that first!

It still ran with the kill switch off(on?) the key out and the HT lead off?

had the exact same problem with a mito,
revved up to the redline & when i turned the key to off, it still kept revving!
turned out to be a split on the rubber manifold, right a the point where the jubilee clip tightens, so wasnt obvious.
sounds like you have an air leak,
