Right this may take some explaining so bare with me,

riding home today up a hil and the bike looses all power and makes a loud screetch like metal on metal and has no drive, the engine revs nomal but no drive as if the clucth had gone for example.

once i got home i whiped the transmission cover of and ther was a little flap that had come of what i can descripe only as the 1st thing on your left as you open the casing its the 1st part of the variator what the starter bendix goes on which had moved out towards the casing and clipped it and what ws causing the screech.

Now i have never taken an auto appart before so il try my best here.i then pulled the variator off the splined shaft crank if im right and everything looks ok other than the splines on the crank have gone and the variator all spins on the splines whic is what gives the loss of traction.

also when i struggled home i cut it out took of my lid and when i tried to restart it was like the starter was just spinning and not engaging which i beleive is due to the variator just spinning and not turning the engine over i have no pics as i cant find the camera but tbh is all as it should be bar the fucked splines now have i answered my own question and need either a replacement crank on just swap the engine.

thanks for reading there is a wanted ad for an engine now.

sounds like the variator was loose for a while and that took the splines out, personally I would fit another engine as there must be lots of tiny bits of splines in there somewhere.

pictures speak a 1000 words especially when its quite hard to interpret what you are trying to say,

if your crank has gone, you have 2 options, replace the engine... with a RUNNER VXR 200 (same stroke just a bigger bore) Wink or rebuild the one you have, which if i read right is a 4 stroke, so is more than likely outside the realms of your mechanical ability.

i see what you say about the pics and i would upload but are lasses dad has my camera, and i could rebuild the engine but by the time iv sourced a crank, gaskets and oils it would be daft when there is a full engine wth extras b.i n on the bay for 100 quid, you say i could fit the 200 vxr engine ? would this fit straight on i assume so but which jet/jets would i have to change in order to be fueling correct thanks adam.oh and is there even much difeerence between the 125 and 200 and dont say 75cc thanks

about 10hp and yeah she bolts straight in, its pretty much exactly the same engine but has a larger bore,
ideally you'd want the 200 carb as well, but you could go through the hassle of rejetting if need be

any of the 125 200 4 stroke engines from gilera and piaggio (including the vespa 4 stroke 200's) will all inter change between models, they are essentially all the same engine
