Hey everyone... again Wink Wink

Bike won't start (90% of the time) on the kick-start recently. It sounds like its firing and it almost starts but no joy... The kick-start mechanism feels like its doing the right thing (well it feels the same as it did when it was working?) so I can't workout whats going on...

Bump starts with absolutely no effort though?..

Help appreciated, im slightly bored of bump starting when I fill up from the petrol station Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

Don't know if you do it already but press down until it goes all the way down a few times. People call it cranking it up but God knows what it does. Give it a few of them and then a boot and it should start.

Otherwise, no idea Laughing

Video to show what I mean here.

Skip to 1:15 and ignore the rest of the bullshit. Also he says do it about 10 times, never seen that before. And that is quite fast how he kicks it over. I have seen other videos and other people doing it but don't really know what to search for Laughing

Yeah, sometimes gently pushing down on it slightly is best to get the end of the compression, so when you next kick it, you're not kicking more than you need to. Surprised

Cor, starting that old Bullet is a bit of a faf!

I think I take electric starters for granted.

Probably because its getting colder. Bump starting is easy as you have the forward momentum which is actually quite a lot. Show her whos boss!

Hey Smile

Cheers for all the replies everyone!

I haven't tried the technique above yet, definitely give that a go tomorrow morning when going to work. I have to be slightly gentle with the kick start as the owner before me had slightly worn away the spline (?) which the kick-start is connected to. I have taken the kick start off and re connected it using a slightly better bolt but not sure how long that will last before I get the welder out... Twisted Evil

Or that Laughing

My Derbi starts first time everytime, by hand Mr. Green Oh the joys of a 50.

You might want to get a new spline then (worn inside too?')

And can bumping damage your engine at all? Always wondered that...

Nah, its just the same process as the kick start (I.e. turning over the engine) but using the back wheel.

No, spent 2 years bumping my KH125 as the kickstart shaft was bent and the cases needed splitting to replace it, even started it a couple times on the centre stand in top gear just because I could, as for starting the CG, kick it over once or twice with the killswitch off, then use the kickstart to get it near top of the compression stroke and give it a good kick.

OK problem is still just as apparent in fact, one in a while now it does nothing at all when kick start is used. (e.g no spark/turn over) however the stand DOES still kick back.

Would it be safe to say a good starting point would be the spark plug?
