Any modern triples that are going to cost less than 2k?

Must be insurance group 12 or there about's. I won't get insurance on anything else Razz.

I just can't get over the sound of the daytona 955, 675, speed triple etc.

I WANT ONE Very Happy

I thought they didn't really sound much different to a four cylinder bike not being fully revved.

And weird, but not unusual way to choose your bike.

Anyway, afraid not that I can think of. Insurance group 12 is pretty low in the grand scheme of things - ie the hornet is 11.

Note that not everyone uses NU insurance groups and you may find you can get cheap insurance on some more interesting models with some companies.

How old are you?

I had one when I was 21, and the insurance was £600.

1300 quid is a complete waste of money.

Get something that is cheaper to insure. You will likely be faster on a smaller bike anyway.

Remember you'll have to pay a decent amount to insure it in another 365 days.

Have you tried a 855cc speed triple?
Always fancied one, but seem over priced compared to say a TRX.

But yes, I'd say if you're short on money, you've got to really care about that sound to be buying on that basis.

I'd reccomend sticking to a smaller engined bike until you're 21. There's no point having a 33bhp 955i, or even 855i...

P.S. I can't imagine a Fazer at 33Bhp - the horror. Shocked

I'd say your speed trip and to some extent the Sprint sounded great, but the cool sound wasn't as prominent on my 955i, or at least I don't remember it so much.

Your 17, everything will be silly money to insure, and anything over 33bhp that you have to declare as 'modified' in order to qualify to ride it more so.
What about a 1974 Suzuki GT380 or 1972 Kawasaki KH250 'Samuri'? They're tripples, and should be under 33bhp!
Other wise, get a GS500 twin like every-one else, and if the noise of a tripple means that much, get an MP3 player and tape the sound track off one of the Duke video's to listen to whilst riding!

Vast majority of bikes you have to declare as modified, yet people don't.

i know everything is going to be stupid to insure...

I was thinking more along the lines of a smaller bike that I didn't realise existed.

The Suzuki GT380 would be great, but its not really a practical commuter Sad.

Hi

Very few triples made.

Yamaha did make one in the late 70s / early 80s (XS750 / XS850). BMW K75 is a possibility but hardly has an exhaust note to detect. Laverda triple will cost you way more than £2k. NS400R is a triple but (like the KH and GT380) a 2 stroke, same for the MVX250.

All the best

Keith

why does no one make triples?

Is it because they are expensive to make?

Something to do with balancing the crank?

How about an R plate T595 in red with 17.5K on the clock, race can, paddock stand, and a few other bits for quite a few quid less than £2K?

Maybe because Triumph just do it best.

Not really any harder to make than a 4 with a balance shaft, just less bits. But it depends on what you want from an engine. 4 is only a bit wider and will produce more power . Twin is narrower and likely more flexible. While to some people a triple is the best of both worlds, to others it is the worst of both worlds.

The major Japanese makers are not too keen on taking risks with new designs (Yamaha seems to be the most adventurous).

All the best

I suspect the cheapest modern triple is going to be a Triumph Sprint RS, you can bag tidy one for well under 2 grand easily. That gets you the same motor and noise as a big Daytona, the big downside (and I suspect a big part of the reason why they are so undervalued) is that they are rather dated looking bikes now. The ride more than makes up for that though, they are super smooth and stable especially so mid corner. Insurance on one shouldn't be too bad, my Futura was similarly undervalued and a bracket higher, yet still very affordable.

*edit* oh and a pic

Or you could bag a mint Daytona, with 17K on the clock and a few extras for quite a bit less than 2K.
