Upon inspection i discovered that the rattle and vibration i have been experiencing is about 1mm of play on con rod/crank.

The top of the piston also has melted metal on it and the head is severely pitted.

Basically i am going to do the top end but need a reputable but not spank you with prices shop or enthusiast in essex or close to do the bottom.

Anyone help?

Wouldn't be a new engine would it, it would be an engine that could well be on its way out.

So far i have been quoted £320 but obviously am not going to go for first one i find, as quality and longetivity is quite important hence not just buying any old engine and actually having one rebuilt.

Thanks for your input though.

The hard part about the bottom end is getting the crank done. If I were you I'd do the bottom end myself and send the crank to Applebee : https://www.applebee.co.uk/motorcycle.html

The bottom end should be easier than the top end in lots of ways. the only issue is trying not to lose bits of gearbox.

If you do feel you can't do it yourself then Stan Stephens is worth a go, but he's near Brands Hatch. Not too far away but still outside your specified area. He doesn't do bikes though, only engines so you'd still have to remove the engine from the frame and take it to him. He won't be cheap either.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

can't you just get a new engine ? £300 ?

if you took it a garage they'd charge that just for labour

Yeah not a good idea. Likely to need as much, if not more, work. For a four stroke bike maybe, but not for a 2 stroke.
