FRIDAY 12 NOVEMBER, Shell will be offering a one day only deal gifting 5 pence off every litre of Shell V-Power Unleaded and V-Power diesel.

The deal is easy, no need for coupons or vouchers, just roll up to a participating Shell forecourt and start filling up.

So, with my cynical head on, that'll bring V-Power down to about the price of the 'normal' stuff.

If they're expecting people to say 'wow, that really is better I'll fill up with this from now on' then I doubt the effects will be that noticable on one tankfull (from what I gather on other forums about V-Power anyhow, need to run a few tankfulls through).

Good marketing ploy though. If I had a spare 20 litre jerry can I'd probably go and fill it.

Shell are about 5p a litre more expensive than Jet round here. So I'll just carry on using Jet Laughing

The Shell garage near my route to work (Malpas Road, Newport) is about the same price as the supermarkets for ordinary unleaded, but the V-Power is either 7 or 8p a litre more expensive. Unfortunately as I filled the FTO up on V-Power last week Evil or Very Mad and I've only done 20 miles since then, it's not worth the hassle.

Great news for anyone with an ECU and knock sensors. Even better if they're on your bike though. Very Happy

It does bring the price closer to that of the standard petrol. I'll be getting a tank of it though, never hurts to run the good stuff once in a while. It's gives the lump a bit of a clean I think.

Not if you're like most people and your ECU is mapped to run 95 ron.

In which case it'll make sweet FA difference, and you'll pay for the privilege.

Surely can't make much difference to bikers. I mean maximum you are putting in is 20 litres, probably less on average so that's £1 saved but you are still probably paying the same price as normal fuel.

If it was normal unleaded 5p off and you had a car with a tank that could take 100 litres, maybe. Still only a fiver saved.

Just skip lunch one day you save more.

... AND knock sensors. Or, granted, if you're mapped for 99 RON. The detergents probably can't hurt, but higher octane fuel can actually have a lower energy density than 95 RON so unless your bike is set up for it, you might run slower, not faster.

Oh god, I'm a nerd. KILL ME NOW!

What effects does it have, once you've run a few tankfuls through?
