Hello everyone,

I am thinking with the idea of a scottoiler, but I am just wondering if thieves steal these much since very often they just sit there without any real locks.

Considering they are 100 or 210 pounds (depending on the version you want), it is a lot of money just to have someone take it. Unfortunately my motorcycle does not have under seat storage so I can hide it there.

Any experiences with this?

cheers!

As far as I am aware the actual resevoir is tucked away out of sight and you'd have to look really close at the bike to notice if there is one fitted or not so the chances are it should be safe enough.

I had one already fitted to the GPZ by the previous owner, and was never aware of any problems with unwelcome attention.

I guess a potential thief could remove quite a lot of valuable fittings if they wanted to - brake calipers, wheels etc - but I'm not aware of any major problems in that area

I woke up one morning to find some-one had stolen my front brake hose! OE rubber one an'all, hardly a bit of expensive bling!
Goes to prove, some-times they'll take stuff even if it IS bolted down!
Basically, anything is at risk of theft, whether its the whole bike, or bits of it.
Heard plenty of stories of bits being walked off, like brake reservoir caps, indicator lenses, brake levers, gear levers, stuff like that, and of course the tax disc.
Snowie actually had her number-plate nicked last year!
THAT one got me thinking..... I mean, I know that they are about a tenner a time, but...... it would have the wrong letters and numbers for another bike, wouldn't it?
Obviousely, so they could put it on another bike, with no Tax or Test & not get clocked through NPR system, but bit of a give away that they have 'cloned' the ident when they nick the plate to do it!
Not specifically heard of a Scottoiler going, but sure some-one must have had one half inched.
But end of the day, if they'll nich a £3 brake reservour cap or a £10 brake hose, anything is game, and you'd never fit anything to your bike, and never leave it parked anywhere, would you. Just something else to factor into the pro's & cons.

I wish someone had stolen the ones on my CBR and Hayabusa, would have saved me the bother of ripping out the horrible little bastard with its poor self discipline and low life goals and throwing it in the bin myself!!

yeah, I guess anything is fair game nowdays. I was just curious if there was a high demand for these rather than the odd one stolen here and there.

Thanks for your replies guys.

Go for the Loobman on your YBR, much simpler and much cheaper. I can show you pics of how I fitted mine if you like?

This reminds me of the time someone stole the quick release bracket from my bicycle after I left it outside someone's flat. I had taken the saddle in with me because of the threat of theft and then that happens...

Thumbs Up I fitted a similarly cheap Tutoro after a good Ride review, but the Loobman looks even more foolproof.

I had the TUTORO but found it didn't work well for me. Lost the delivery tube after a week or so as it got ripped off by the chain or sprocket (maybe the way I installed it but the Loobman end has stayed put for months) and you had to keep topping it up often because the reservoir was so small (Loobman has a bigger bottle). And if you forgot to turn it off, you'd get a puddle of oil on the floor (Loobman would never load enough oil into the system for that to be an issue). The Loobman also delivers oil to both sides of the sprocket where the TUTORO didn't (might do now, haven't looked at it in a while).

Im sure people have had theirs stolen somewhere in the world, but who in their right mind would go to the trouble of getting some-one to half inch it....

Number plate theft is very common now that you can't get a plate made up without a V5. Crims use them for all sorts of unlawful activity. For example, I recently saw an 'F reg' Audi TT drive off without paying for fuel Surprised .

To date, never had any component of my car/bike stolen bar a few dust caps.

Well, you're not supposed to, but nobody has told the dozens of eBay sellers that.

But I guess if you're planning to use a plate for blagging, then you might as well start as you mean to go on.

Theft is bad and all that, but there is some satisfaction in saying "Told you so" about replacing actual Plod with ANPR and GATSOS, to which a stolen or cloned plate makes you immune. The more you tighten your grip...

I guess the way to get something done about it would be to clone the plates of the local MP and Chief Constable, and have a good thrash through some Tax Cameras. See if they think it's not a big problem once the NIPs start hitting their doormats.

That reminds me of the urban legend of the mobile enforcement camera van that issued itself something like seventeen speeding tickets! Story as I read it put it in Australia, and claimed that they drove the van out to its target hot-spot, parked it, set the camera up inside, then the operator was given a lift back to the station, leaving it unattended, to do its job. So, couple of its victims, scouted for the van, & when they found it, unscrewed the number-plate, attached it to thier own van, and then drove backwards and forwards through its trap!

Don't know why people keep on slating scottoilers, they're brilliant if set up well. Haven't adjusted my chain in 5,000 miles on the fazer.

And no, never been nicked.
