Went to get on my bike today, had to remove the disc lock first... it was being a bit stubborn so I tried forcing it (idiot that I am) and managed to snap the key off in the lock. What is the best way of removing it without damaging the disc brake itself? I don't have a spare key as i got it with the bike when I bought it...

Help!

You probably won't get it out without damaging the lock, but you probably know that already lol.

May be being a little paranoid here, but first post and asking how to defeat a disk lock sounds a little suspect Smile

Then tell him a slow method that will take much time and make much noise Wink

Personally i can't think of anything that fits the bill otherwise i'd say so.

If you are a casual thief, you clearly aren't very good at it given the number of vids on youtube showing you how to break locks, so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt.

Angle grinder or bolt croppers will get through it. Angle grinder is noisier, but you have less chance of damaging the disc. Bolt croppers put a lot a of force through a lock and if they slip and twist then you're putting a lot of lateral torque through the brake disc, which isn't a great idea.

Will be noisy, so take the wheel off and do it in your garage if you're going to be irritating people nearby with the noise.

Soak the whole key area in WD40 to help free up whatever was sticky. Leave overnight. Turn lock part, with snapped key still in, using screwdriver blade, pliers, whatever.

They key should be holding the tumblers open still; you're just replacing the lump on the end that lets you apply some torque.

+1 with the angle grinder... and if you need to take the wheel off, still be acareful of the angle grider spraying sparks across the sidewall of your tyre

I'm +1 for the key idea...

3/4's of a key in my tank lock, never coming out...
Jam the last 1/4 in there and give it a twist as there is enough key in there to keep it open (slight security flaw maybehaps lol).

Works fine to be honest so if possible, try use the remainder of the key to get it open.

Angle grinder, make a slip and its new disk time, bolt croppers, be careful and it may be new disk time as well...

What about some thermite if your going to be buying a new disk anywho? Very Happy

Superglue something with a handle onto the lock and it should turn if the key is keeping the tumblers open.
