Anyone got any good sites where I can get cheap ferries from England to Spain because some places I have looked are expensive. Apart from riding through France are there any alternatives?

Cheers

Ferry to spain are not cheap.

Keep checking MCN as they often advertise discounts Wink

I would rather use the ferry and arrive fresh and relaxed than ride through france. By the time you add fuel, accomodation and toll road fees, I doubt there will be much difference Thumbs Up

The ferry companies have got you by the balls on cost, and know it too.
The loss of the P&O shit heap Pride of Bilbao on the portmouth to Bilbao route, won`t help pricing either, unless theres alternative competition, the Spainish ferry prices are very much a monopoly for Brittany ferries on the Portsmouth/Plymouth to Santander route.

No....... not really atm, and as Paxovasa states, the difference in pricing, between riding thru france and taking the direct ferry used to only be around £10-£20, once you`d factored in the fuel costs, a couple of overnights accomodation etc for the overland french route

I know of 3 ferries;

Plymouth -> Santander
Portsmouth -> Santander
Portsmouth -> Bilbao

And I don't think any of them are particularly cheap.

Just checked what Peirre said, seems the Portsmouth Bilbao ferry has been cancelled, I hadn't heard many good things about it either. Also parents used both ferries recently and much preferred the Plymouth ferry because there was a better choice of places to eat and the shop was better. They think the ferry used on the Portsmouth was made for shorter crossings not long 18 hour ones.

I took the Pride of Bilbao in June from Portsmouth to Bilbao and IIRC it was decommissioned at the end of the summer - both the ship and the route.

I didn't think that the cost of the ferry was too bad considering that we had a cabin for two nights and sat about watching films and chilling out on the way down. The ship itself was pretty dire and I can't say the choice of tuck was great but given that we knew it was at the end of it's days it was no where near as bad as I had been lead to believe it would be.

I used www.ferrysavers.com and we paid £241 for the first person including the cabin and then each person after that was £150, so it worked out as £173 each.

We booked on the 1st March for a June sailing as the places were going fast. Now there are even fewer spaces for bikes to Spain I'd reckon the earlier the better applies even more now.

Brittany Ferries run from Portsmouth/Plymouth to Santandar were booking soon for next Sept. about £360 for bike and two people with cabin both ways, considering its about a 22 hour trip dont think thats bad.
