I have a '94 rxs 100 that will not tick over no matter what I try. It will start up fine but the revs will settle at about 3000rpm for a short while and then drop off and cut out. I have cleaned the carb out and set the needle to it's midway point, set the air screw 1,1/2 turns out and have even fitted a new plug and cap all to no avail. I have looked at all the advice I can find on this site and tried it all but I am now stumped. I cannot take the bike on the road to get it fully hot as it has no t&t, but a short run (on private land) also revealed that it has a miss fire at full throttle. I need to get it running correctly so that I can take it for an MOT so any more advice will be greatfuly recieved.

The miss fire could be due to you changing the mixture settings.

Have you adjusted the idle screw?

If I adjust the idle screw in the revs shoot up drastically, if I adjust the screw out it takes at least 2 full turns and then it will drop off and die as mentioned. There seems to be no midway point between 3000rpm and stalling.

Is fuel getting through?

2 strokes when short of fuel rev higher before dying.

Fuel seems to getting through as there is always fuel in the in-line filter and the engine can be kept running if you blip the throttle then the whole process starts again. Also I have already tried running it with the fuel cap open this morning and it makes no difference. If I had more hair I would be tearing it out by now Crying or Very sad !!!

I have also tried removing the in-line filter so this can't be blocked either.

The air filter is clean, (i've checked) but the plug is very new so not showing any signs of anything yet. I will just have to start again when I get another day off work and it's not too cold as I have to keep the garage door open due to no leccy in there. There must be something that I have overlooked but it eludes me at the present.

How old is the fuel that is in the tank?

Do you have to pre mix the 2 stroke and petrol?

The fuel in the tank is not very old and it has had this problem since I bought the bike a couple of months ago. Funny that the guy I bought it off has no knowledge of the problem, mind you 2 short planks might just be his intellectual equal! The oil is mixed by a seperate pump and seems to be working as there is no shortage of blue smoke, the oil pump looks quite new as well.

*Throttle cable sticking? And due to you adjusting the mixture when it releases it cuts out.

Also check the choke Wink

Check the HT lead is properly screwed to the plug cap and that the end of the lead isn't corroded.

Might also be worth giving the stator components a blast with WD40.

Sounds like it could be water in the ignition system.
