Just learned today that another local bike shop has closed, bring it to 3 in 3 weeks. That's Brackley Yamaha in Brackley, Anchor Kawasaki in Finedon and now Midland Superbikes in Market Harborough. Apparently when people turned up for work at the latter on Tuesday they found the gates chained, locks changed and were told to turn around and go home. Smells like HMRC to me, as a friend got a winding up notice last week over a PAYE bill that he was already paying back - it seems like the gov are trying to scrape together as much cash as they can, regardless of the long term impact on businesses.

Shame I don't have any spare cash or space, seems like it has potential for snatching up cheap bikes to sell on in the spring.

Can only agree, lots of the middle eastern airports are stunning, Dubai is pretty stunning.

Heathrow and Gatwick in comparison are terrible, even terminal 5 isnt that amazing compared to others.

This is true. HMRC are implacable and they will not be moved. I've been describing this on BCF and other forums for a while

They are extremely short sighted and retarded in their actions. While almost all creditors will tend to negotiate so they will get their money (and future money) from their client HMRC will NEVER NEGOTIATE. Thus over the past 2 years there has been an increasing trend of HMRC liquidating businesses and taking their money most of the time killing the business.

This may be an indicator of bigger less pleasant things going on, which lead to even worse things then something really bad.

I think its too small for small claims though. Also BCF boycots tend not to work! I mean DK motorbikes is STILL inbusiness.

A deposit can be a few hundred quid, which isnt too small for small claims court. BCF may not have shut DK down, but if one person has decided against using them as a result, BCF awareness raising has worked.

ah - that was the tax deferral scheme ("time to pay") that labour had brought in.

i've got a client who have arrears of PAYE of £250K with them. the revenue are going in hardball now and are going to wind them up.

can't say i'm surprised.

Thats not the worst one. The worst one was when they sold a ringer bike a GS500e I believe. It got a few cops involved to force them to take it back.

The number of bike shops that have shut over the past few years is frightening. Off the top of my head, I can't think of more than two or three new ones that have opened. One of those was just scooters (Vespas, Lammies and the modern twist and go stuff).

Everything is turning to shit. I want to hop in Dr Who's Tardis and zap back to 1986 or so Neutral
