I have recently been doing some work to my old bike a malaguti xtm 50, its been stood for a while and have now got round to getting it out, properly respraying the fairings (no not black with monster whatever stickers Rolling Eyes ) Original colour red masked up all the decals etc.. anyway discovered yesterday fuel tap had packed up (one of these electric ones which give up for a past time) so replaced it with a spare manual on/off tap which I had lying about. Fine so got fuel got spark got air (obviously Very Happy ) but it wont start, which is strange. Got it to run for 10 secs or so yesterday on fuel which I had put down the pipe just to get it to run. Burnt off all the oil with the trick of heating the plug up with a blow torch then kicking it over. Anyway that was fine I was happy, so try again today as it now has a constant fuel flow and a few hours later with a sore arm from kicking it over with my hand I still havent heard as much as a splutter, I have set the carb to factory defaults 2 and a half turns out on mixture etc. So thats all done, plug is clean and a very nice strong spark. I am thinking it could be a buggered HT lead because its not firing at all and these two smokes are not the most advanced of engines.. because for all I know its may not be sparking under compression. So if anyone has any ideas please let me know. Oh and yes it does have tons of compression (new piston and rings which have only done 10 miles!) Pretty sure its not crankshaft seals either but it could be. Be nice to get it working and sold so I can progress with my chopper build Very Happy

May I make a suggestion? That you don't call your thread 'Help please'.

That is the most pointless phrase since the Maharaja of india brought his prized elephant into his palace, and one of his courtiers said "Ah, I see there is an elephant in the room".

Of course you need help, it is the workshop! However, if you gave a little bit more info, like what the bike is and what the problem is, then people who know about the problem will read the thread and perhaps post a solution. Otherwise they'll just skip over it and read something else.

You can change the subject of a thread by hitting the 'edit' button. Thumbs Up Smile

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Your bike knew you gave your thread a redundant title. You changed it, it works.

I'm going to try this now.

Old Thread Alert!

The last post was made 15 years, 213 days ago. Instead of replying here, would creating a new thread be more useful?
