Well I decided to make a start on the swing arm project today. Like the "GK" project of Korn's and Zims I will be posting updates of the progress and suchlike.

Today I completed the cleanup stage of the project! Laughing Stripping down the parts and making sure its nice and clean and making a note of all the imperfections that I need to take care of!

Here are the results!

Dremel!

How longs this going to take you!

Get an orbital sander, cover more surface area and it will be a constant pressure, so you'll get a more even surface and it won't take so long!

apparently If I use a big orbital sander it can leave flat spots and flatten the welds etc..... I have until the summer to complete the task so there is no hurry!

If you use a dremel you are more than likely to create a lot of low spots throughout.

Stu
Have just had a word with the polisher down in the workshop....(he's actually doing a swinging arm at the mo for one of the welders) and you don't wanna be using anything as small as a dremel......his advice was go and find a local guy like him who should charge you no more than £30 for pa pukka job.....
I dont know where you are....but if it's anywhere near Wokingham...just drop it in and he'll do it for you.....he has all the mops and soaps.....let me know if you want any more help/advice..

The paint has been removed, the polishing begun, and bits of it done but for price of around £30 I'd go for having him do it Smile

Hmm that doesn't relate to the type of work I do so i dont think we could blag it through work - Though we have sites all over so I could just drive down. Laughing

Though it would be easier to do it myself, get it done round here anyway.

So ste you going to re-paint the bodywork as well?

Up to you mate.....the facility is there if you need it......the important thing to remeber is that if you dont have the right equipmnet......more often you can end up making with a pile of shite......I think the point has already been made about the Dremil being small and leaving flatspots etc...etc....even a very small mop will cost probably £5 - £10 .....and even if used in a power drill....the drill wont be powerful enough to get out a lot of the imperfections......I dont want to sound as if i'm on a comission or anything......I like to do stuff myself....but sometimes when it's a bit specialised, for the sake of £30 or so you might as well just go get it done proper like and save yourself the hassle....
