NSR engine in an offroader?

Hey,
So i have this spare engine for the NSR,
I also so happen to have a Kymco Stryker that is all there accept for the exhaust and carb which were giving me grief....

Now my plan is, when i move i would like to try get this NSR engine into the Stryker and use it for off road 2 stroke joy (green laning).

I understand that i will need to work on getting the mounting of the engine sorted but as the stryker is an air cooled 4 stroke there is plenty of room in there!
Some of the spare NSR parts i have (off the top of my head) are:
Complete engine (Minus the starter motor...),
radiator,
oil pump,
carb,
engine cables,
exhaust valve servo,
regulator,


Sooo I'm wondering, just what else will i need to marry the NSR engine with the Stryker bike?
I'll be happy to pick up a wiring loom,but would it be easier to try retrofit the whole NSR wiring loom in there or just a portion to keep the engine happy? The main problem being that there is literally NO documentation (manuals/wiring diagrams) for the stryker Sad.

This project wont take off until feb next year and I will be completely stripping and rebuilding my NSR as well so will be able to play with any NSR bits before buying.

Any and all thoughts would be much appreciated.

I would love to know both bikes but I don't.
I think mounting the rad and sorting exhaust will be a problem.
I will look in to it and see what I can find out.

I had a CRM for a while - it's an official Honda off-road styled bike that uses an engine almost but not quite identical to an NSR (mine has a kickstart for instance and the R/C servo control was different.)
It was actually 'ok' offroading in most situations, but was a lot more work than proper off-road bikes because it's so lacking in bottom end.
So you've got to be really up and down the gears and constantly on full throttle.
If things get too muddy, however, then you start to have real trouble - while on the road you can use the clutch to deliver your power to the road, off-road you find it has a tendancy to just spin up - low rpm torque is actually useful off-road.

Should be noted further that I down-geared mine so that it had around a 60mph top speed too in the end. (I got a +10 rear sprocket made up.) Mine would do around 80mph when I got it flat-out, which when you consider knobbly tyres and much worse air-resistance, is probably about right for full power - it was still geared for around 100mph.

Its a project i am keen on mostly because the stryker was my first bike and i love the idea of green laning so want to try it bit alas the stryker is also pretty slow...
NSR engine should nippy it up a little!

Also the stryker handles sooo beautifully Very Happy

I see exactly where your coming from with the lack of tourque...
I'm fairly familiar with half engaging the clutch whilst revving up the engine to get a faster pull away...

The stryker would deffintalty need to be geared down...
Top speed isnt an issue really...
My NSR is happy up to 90mph which is where i girly out (front end gets rather light), so i recon the stryker could make a comfortable 60-65 Smile

Sorry, should have actually gone into more details - in various 'muddy' or generally slippy situations I'd be at the point that I could hardly make any progress at all. At low revs the engine would bog down (as it's got a lot of resistance from all the mud), so you'd have to use the clutch and lots of revs to get in to the powerband; whereupon the engine would just spin up.
Quite frustrating and likely to happen a lot this time of year.
This happened even with the engine down-geared.

As I say, I've been on green laning trips where I've been fine and managed to 'keep up' with an XR250 and RMX250 fine, abiet with more work - but also been in situations where I've only been able to go 5mph maximum, regardless of what technique I used.
All in all, at this time of year could prove to be a very frustrating experience.

doing a smililar project myself, bought a 4 stroke supermoto and I have an nsr , after owning a mtx I know what my supermoto can be capable of , so just waiting for a nsr engine I bought off ebay to retro fit to my supermoto. ...... you could just sell the bike and get a honda mtx, possibly the best off road bike made, definably the best I have ridden

You really need to ride some other off road bikes then Wink.

NSR engine is a lot more suited to supermoto use - where the lack of low down power can be made up for with the clutch.

I had the mtx when i was 17/18 mabey the grass is greener? or it truley is the best 125cc ever created? hmmmm Im ebaying now to find one Smile ...... I loved my mtx Sad

Sorry, yes, its 2010 basic fractional fly/angle related to parts of algebra, really recent studies only heard in lectures of the idiotic..... thank you for the heads up Razz
