Hi folks

I'm after a 600 sports bike for next year and the above bikes seem to be bang on for my 'winter bargain bike fund' of £2.5-3k. I'll want it for fast(well.... ish) road riding and the occasional longer trip. I have no interest in taking it on track at this point, my Hornet will be turned into a budget track tool over the winter after my recent 'incident'.

I'd like the thoughts from the owners, past and present, of the above models and differences between them. I've sat on both and liked them but no test rides as yet. CBR600RRs seem to be a bit pricey for similar years and feel pretty tiny to me. Insurers would dry bum me if I wanted an R6 as I'm 23 Rolling Eyes

Cheers

Perhaps. I can appreciate their excellent all-rounderness but they just don't really give me the horn as much. It is on the list of possible test rides Wink

Yeah I got some quotes and they all came out at ~£390 on go compare with the Kwak slightly more. I was going on what a mate told me about his insurance Confused

Did you ride any of the others mentioned before you went for the R6?

If you can get B1h for around 2grand then go for it, there few bargains out there, but b1h insurance is 150quid more on average then for R6. As for honda RR you'll be lucky to get anything decent for less then 3k. As for r6 they tend to hold their value like a bitch, i got mine last week with 6k miles on for 2 grand (because i was checking ebay every day for 2 months waiting for the right thing). Gixxers k1/k2/k3 go for around 1800-2500, k4 from 2500 onwards. You might also want to consider triumph daytona 600, they can go dirtcheap with low miles, 2k can get you decent 2003/2004 with around 10k miles on, insurance is also cheapest out of the lot.

Give them test rides. I found the B1 very uncomfortable, almost unbearable on long rides (even on short rides it was uncomfortable). I hear the CBR also has an awfully hard seat. The early R6 was pretty decent but then you have the gear issues.

The Ninja seems to be the best buy for the money, always been cheaper then its rivals of the same year, but looks dated compared. (More to insurer i found too)

I am finding that out on my B1 now. I am cramping up at times, not sure if it is the cold aswell, I don't feel cold through my leathers, but maybe it is cold enoguh to cause a problem.

Interesting. How tall are you? I'm 5'10" so a very different shape to Souleh who finds it comfy. I know I'll need a test ride but I'm really looking for owners' opinions on what they're like to live with.

Many thanks gents Smile

I'm 5 foot 8, maybe 9.

Maybe my leathers are too tight, only get it when I wear them, and I do hit 120-140. Maybe the speed affects it too, I only wear my leathers when I'm doing a good ride.

In terms of height, it's not too tall at all, pretty perfect for me.

It's a great bike, I love it, compared to the RS125 it's a little bumpy and tight corners are not so easy but you know when and what it is capable of after 1 week. A little light on the front on turns at high speed perhaps, but this is comparing a 125 to a 600.

It looks sexy to me, is very fast if you rev it fully and generally bikers love them.

Well it'll be after a Hornet for me so I'm fully expecting it to be more of a racing crouch and quicker to steer. The Hornet shakes its head too so I'm not too worried about that.

I agree, they are fit as Wink

My 1st big bike was a k3 gsxr600 I also owned a b1h for about 2 years.
The b1h was a fantastic bike but It is a bit uncomfortable on long journeys if your not moving about on it ie motorways.
the gsxr is more comfortable but its still a sports bike so its still not ideal if you go for a k3 it doesnt have upside down forks more modern brake's and its suspension is a bit soft compared to the kawasaki but a few people complain its too hard I thought it was just about perfect and the brakes are superb.
Im 5ft 10 and slighty Embarassed overweight on the kawasaki my legs would go numb from the knee down on long journeys on the gsxr it had a further reach to the bars so it was the back to get it.
I have had a go on a R6 and hated it it was one of the last of the old shape with the exhaust up the side and I thought the cbr 600 rr was too small In my opinion Id be looking for a k4/k5 gsxr600.
Hope that helps only my opinion try before you buy everyone's got a different opinion.

I have had GSXR 600 SRAD, was quite good, suspension was softer but footpegs were rather high. Now i have a 99 R6 and i must say it feels more comfy then SRAD, suspension is a bit rockhard, pegs are better positioned and handling + topend acceleration makes up for everything else.

As I said they are on the shortlist but not quite as horn-inducing for me. However, I'll have to ride one first. The FS does have a slightly nicer paintjob but from what I can gather is hardly any different at all in the real world. Being broadly familiar with the engine I have to say I haven't been put off the CBR!

RRs are definitely too small. I'd love one but the ones in my price range seem comparatively a little ropey, which is a shame.

Well i find mine uncomfortable because the slope in the seat forced me right up against the tank, may be due to wearing jeans, maybe a decent set of leather may of gave me some traction. Smile Better yet, those take pads you can use for gripping the tank.

It wouldn't stop me buying another as you don't really buy these bikes for comfort but on trips it made me very fidgetty.

O/T but just seen that my Ninja comes up as the 7th image on a Google search. Cool. Laughing
