The 'established' thing to do is to change the oil, fill the tank to the brim, take the battery out and spray everything (except discs and tyres obviously) with WD40. This should see it through to spring. ____________________ The purpose of life is to fight maturity. |

As above.
Plus if you want belt and braces put some fuel stabiliser in the tank and run it through for a while to make sure gets into carbs. Yamaha do one and so do Putoline.
Additionally I have been known to stuff an oily rag down the exhaust to try and prevent it rusting inside (jury's out on how effective this may be).
Instead, or indeed as well as, WD40 you could put grease over the surfaces. Just make sure applied to dry bike. Wash off in spring.
People have been known to take the spark plug(s) out and put a slug of oil down the barrel(s). This is maybe more suitable for longer term storage so I shouldn't sweat about it.
Oh, and keep the tyres pumped up. ____________________ ...and the whirlwind is in the thorn trees, it's hard for thee to kick against the pricks...
