Hello font of all knowledge,i recently had a short on the bike(front light...repaired etc, after forking out £90+ on a new battery.
the bike has been laid up with the snow and crappy scottish roads, until today i have taken it out and did a bit of cleaning but whilst trying to start the battery it died a death on me( i had taken off the battery and stored it indoors over the past few weeks)a mate checked the voltage and it appeared to be at only 9 volts???NEW BATTERY??could i have a wonky battery?is it covered by warranty?
I put my old battery back on and surprise surprise it started first time(doh money wasted on the other.
Grateful for any advice.

Charge it, see if it holds a charge, if it doesn't I'd be tempted to chance sending it back, don't tell them about the short though.

Presumably if you paid £90 you bought it from a shop? Did it come precharged/did you charge it before using it?

Uh, when you got the new battery, did you fully charge it first before running the bike off of it?

And when you had it indoors, did you hook it up to a charger?

Lead-acids need to be kept charged. A cheap charger (plus a multimeter) costs a lot less than a new battery.
