I aint makin this shit up lads. Seriously....

You remember that gix that had the chain snap at 120mph on the motorway a few months back yeah?

Well i got the engine swapped finished ok, no probs, running like a dream. Gave it back to my mate telling him that he needs to stick coolant / antifreeze in there ASAP.

Last week his rad hose popped off during the night.

Put it back on, been riding it since.

Tells me today that the bike is off the road as it keeps over heating.

They did say that it mite have a crack in the block and thats why it is over heating.

I am totally pissed off.

That is all.

Funny as l was working at a building in Reading today were they forgot to put Glycol (anti-freeze) in the buildings chilled water system and left the trace heating on the pipework switched off so last week all the pipework and chillers spilt, loads of £££££ worth of damage and no cooling for the comms rooms. Laughing

Is coolant any good for the winter?

I'm not sure what I have in my bike but I topped it up with some coolant.

I was thinking do I need some anti freeze, but the coolant seems OK to me so far.

coolant is antifreeze!

antifreeze is coolant! its the bloody same stuff!

you can get it ready mixed and some you can get 'neat' which you have to dilute......

some people really shouldnt touch an engine!

Temperatures are forecast to rise considerably by the weekend, with consistent positive temperatures even in Scotland. Apparently due to be 8 degrees here on Sunday - I'll be out all day Very Happy

Despite that, I had three bikes in this weather back in January. All were perfectly fine with diluted mix.

that is a baaad idea. causes 'furring' inside the engine leading to blockages.

plus certain engines are designed for certain types of anti freeze. i.e if u have a aluminium block alcohol based anti freeze is not recommended your really supposed to use 'corrosion inhibited ethylene glycol' based anti freeze due to some kind of reaction between alcohol and aluminium.

and same with anti freeze suitable for iron engines has a violent reaction with alloy.

you should also use distilled water if posible if not rain water caught ina non metallic container is suitable because it contains minimal amounts of mineral impurities .or boiled water left to cool.

just to let any1 know Very Happy
merry xmas
