Hey all, you may remember my thread about my Bandit suffering from Carb Icing. Well, i decided to get some Silkolene Pro FST. Opie Oils do it for a good price, and us BCF'ers get a discount Smile

Now, i just dumped it in the bike's full fuel tank (the bottle says 100:1 to 50:1 depending on scale of the problem), and shook the bike around a bit. She fired up first time WITHOUT CHOKE! This has never happened to my bike in the winter, especially not in the weather that we've been having.

There was a bit of spluttering as she idled, then as the PRO fst got pulled into the system she started running beautifully. I was shocked. At first i thought it was just my wishful thinking, but this stuff really does bloody work! and I'm in awe!

Its a much smoother drive than ever before too, the engine purs, and its nice and responsive. My engine was good before anyway, but I can feel that ever so slight healthy pur in her.

But here's my dilemma. The second time i filled up, i added some Redex. Bike stood for a few days, theni forgot that i had Redex in my fuel before and i dumped the Pro FST in there. Is this gonna be an issue. So far, the Redex+Pro FST mix seems to be working an absolute charm, but is this going to damage my bike at all?

As for the Pro FST, would recommend it highly. Its £12 quid well spent i say.

As the resident artist CaNsA has clearly illustrated, your bike will now simply self-detonate in an awesomely spectacular manner.

Never Mix Fuel additives....

Laughing no, unfortunately, although i should speak to Oilman and see if he can hit me up with some moolahs. hehe.

But seriously though, just thought I'd share, because i noticed a few threads about carb icing recently.

And so I'm assuming that theres no real harm done by mizing these two additives then lol

Thats what i thought at first. I thought it was just my wishful thinking making me think the bike worked so much better in order to justify the £12 quid spend. But no, genuinely, she does run smoother now, and no signs of carb icing although the weather conditions are practically the same as when i did experience the icing.

Love how disbelieving people are Laughing

I would try it based on a review like that if my bike was suffering carb icing.

I think he means that the first start wasn't affected by the addative, as the fuel in the float bowls wouldn't have addative in it till you ran the bike and used what was in the bowls, so the first start was normal.

Ive used FST for a couple of winters in my ZX6R when it was suffering from carb icing on the motorways.

Seemed to cure it. No performance gains though.

I'm told surgical spirit works exactly the same as proFST.

I never quite had the guts to try it though.

Carb icing only really happens when you're riding along, the fact it started first time with no choke is because you've dumped a flammable (more flammable than petrol) liquid into it... put redex in in big quantities and the same thing happens, it even raised the idle revs of my old YBR125 when i did it

okay, well maybe the first time start was me willing this thing to work. But genuinely, the conditions aren't that different over here. We still have ice on the road and pavements.

This stuff works. And i also read about surgical spirit doing the same job as Pro FST, but i didn't want to start ordering weird chemicals online incase i had that Anti-terror squad breaking down my door lol.

But conditions here have been the same as when i had carb icing, similar temp, similar humidity. No icing though.
