Hi everyone

I am very new to all this. Took CBT a couple of weeks ago. Mod 1 was supposed to be today but postponed until Monday. This means I have also had to change Mod 2 as it was going to be on Wednesday.

Not that I am not confident of passing Mod 1 you understand.... Although I do have a penchant for kicking the cone on the swerve...

Anyway, I am in Oxford and have a lovely Honda CBF 125. The whole bike thing is NOT a mid-life crisis.

After all, I'm not 40 til January........

Keep warm

Adam

Weather dependent lolz though - I wouldn't fancy doing Mod 1 in the wet, snow or serious wind.

You can cancel a Mod 2 with 3 working days notice, so Friday -> Wednesday (or Monday -> Friday) should be OK.

Best of luck, and the weather may work in you favour. I did Mod 2 in a blizzard, and think it made it easier - when I turned after a 20 mile ride with a solid coating of snow and slush covering me and the bike, I suspect the examiner thought "Well, OK, let's get the formalities over and give this chap his license." Wink

Hi all

Not sure I know what lolz is, but the gap was in case of a Mod 1 failure. I have kicked the cone several times!

I am not sure I would want to take either in a blizzard, however much sympathy that would generte with an instructor.

Have lots of people had tests cancelled or are they not daft enough to book them in the first place?

I've had to do exactly the same thing...I had Mod 1 booked for Monday after training this weekend and then Mod 2 next week. The training centre said I could go ahead but their off-road training facility is out of action, they can't use back roads and the test centre is closed until Monday so we wouldn't be able to use it for Mod 1 practice as usual....

Looks like I won't be getting a licence before xmas...

I'd be careful booking mod 1 close to mod 2. Easy as the mod 1 is a friend of mine failed it even though he was so cock-sure he would pass!

Also isn't it 5 days to cancel a mod 2 test?

I really wouldn't risk booking them both together within a week. I had to take mod1 twice. The problem is, however easy it may seem or actually be, it is extremely easy to make a silly mistake- and the examiners are very strict on this policy.

I did my mod1 mid November, and don't even plan to get onto mod2 until the spring hehe. Laughing

It's definitely 3. I've still got my Mod 2 booked for just in case I get a slot for Mod 1 next week. However the weather looks pretty crap then too so might just cancel it all...

Hmm, depends on your definition of "day". Wink

They are too cunning to be understood, but I read that as being on the 4th day before the test date - why the cock they can't just say "four" rather than "more than three" is beyond me. Maybe they get paid by the word.

So if you count Saturday - and I don't see why not, as they test on Saturdays - then you should be able to cancel on Friday for a test on Wednesday, or on Monday for a test on Friday. An actual human might consider Monday to Friday to be five days, I grant you. Laughing

They do let you cancel on the day if the weather is bad though - I was just determined not to have to rebook. Very Happy

For my part, the instructors have booked and rearranged the tests, I just give them free dates. I think they are close together to give the feel of an intensive course. When I was there the other day one chap took mod 1 in the morning and mod 1 in the afternoon. That's confidence!

I have a very new/stupid question which is what, if anything, should I wear under my new and lovely Richa trousers??

Ah, right. I understand that the DSA lets training schools just block-book slots and send along whomever's ready.

Wear whatever you want under your trews. I assume they've got thermal lining, but for very chilly days, you may want to pull some thermal long johns on under them. You can then stop and do some prospectin' if you like.

when i did my mod one it was so wet you could barely see the cones for spray, chucking down too. was fine, the guy said the surface had been developed specifically for the mod 1 test. loads of grip!

Mine's on the car park at the football stadium. Hope the tarmac is still special.

Still, at least the sun is shining today.

As expected, just had the call to cancel.

Can't say I am too upset given that it is -4 degrees and snowing!

Oldie - hope you get a thatw so you can get some practice in. I went out yesterday for an hour and looked like the Michelin man with all the clobber on. Kept pretty warm though, apart from finger tips.

For both my mod 1 and 2 I booked months ahead, then took advantage of cancellations, sat mod 1 within a week of the original booking, and mod 2 within a week of mod 1

Don't know if there is much point booking anything for the next couple of weeks. Perhaps Christmas Eve Mod 1 and New Years Eve Mod 2. Maybe not.

Now got Mod1 booked for the 22nd. We'll see if the weather clears up before then.

Maybe 22nd March judging by the doom-mongering weather forecasters.

Good luck if it goes ahead and hope you get to practice.

As an aside, I am taking the DAS and was wondering how many people 3 point turn the bike for the first Mod 1 manoeuver rather than straight round into the second bay. I am over 6ft tall, nearly 14 stone and I found wheeling the 500cc bike quite an effort. Perhaps I was leaning it too far into my body, but I was definitely not going to let it topple away from me! Any thoughts or am I just being a poof?

I had my Mod 2 cancelled yesturday.

Going to wait until Feb now, as I won't be riding in this anyway.

As for the three point turn, it is perfectly acceptable. I think you were leaning the bike to far over, try straighten it up and the weight should vanish. Obviously not too far though, or it could fall onto you.

Either way is valid, just do the usual visual checks and ensure the stand is down properly.

Thanks fingernails.

It is really the differential - I can pick up one end of my 125 if I need to move it, the 500 seemed errrr.... heavier!!

Good luck with mod 2 in the spring.
