Piaggio Zip 125 not turning on

Hi all, stumbled across this forum and was hoping someone could help me.

I was given this ped as a gift from my brother, it was his learning one and he said I could have it, so I got it MOT'd, insured, everything else.

Only trouble is that it won't turn on. 2 days ago I turned it on and after a few tries it started okay, but the lights on the dashboard were fading in and out. Went to start it later the same day and it wouldnt turn on at all, no lights, nothing.

I was told it might be a flat battery, so I went out and bought a charger, and then a trickle charger as well. Tried charging the battery overnight and tried it, but nothing has changed, it still wont start.

I haven't tried the trickle charger yet, but I haven't taken it out of the packet. Does this sound like a problem anyone else might know what it is?

Literally no lights come on or anything when i turn the ignition.

new battery poss. and check connections and that the fuse is in order. Do these and report back.
