Posted: 11:02 - 16 Dec 2010 Post subject: Oil from front forks |
 |
|
I've noticed for the last couple of days I've had a film of oil from one side of the fork seals and I was wondering how easy it is to change the seals?
And while I'm here, I've noticed there is a slight amount of wear on my front sprocket, so I figured I would replace the front/rear sprockets and chain, I found these on ebay:
https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SUZUKI-VL125-INTRUDER-00-07-CHAIN-AND-SPROCKETS-KIT-/280412705215?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item4149e651bf
Is that too cheap? Cause I found a set on amazon and they wanted £50
With the price of all the other parts on the bike (£350 for a starter, £998 for an exhaust etc), that sounds a bit too cheap.... any advice please |

If it's just a slight film of oil from the fork seals, it could be that there is some dirt under the seals preventing them sealing properly.
If you can shove someting thin down the gap between the stanchion and the seal, you may find it all seals up again.
I've heard of this being done with either a thin feeler guage or a strip of thin, rigid plastic like photographic film wrapped tightly round the stanchion. The film is probably less likely to cause additional damage.
C+S price seems about right. They are doing named brand (did) heavy duty C+S kits for that bike on Wemoto for £35.05.
If you want an o-ring chain, it'll be more expensive (probably looking closer to £80-90) but I don't really think it's necessary on a 125. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”
I did the 2010 Round Britain Rally on my 350 Bullet. 89 landmarks, 3 months, 9,500 miles. |
