Enduro bike <£1500

WTB an offroad enduro bike, don't mind abit of a project but price must reflect if it needs work. Must be road legal T&T a bonus but not essential.

Something that will be a good starter bike and won't mind 30 miles of motorway once in a while.

Don't mind whether 2 or 4t, but I think I would prefer 4t. Looking to buy mid March - early April but can collect sooner if required. Must be not to far from Essex, but will travel for the right bike at a good price.

If it's road miles you're after a low strung 4 stroke is the answer - I have a P reg XR250R for sale for a grand if you're interested, it's had quite a bit spent on it - I'm in Horsham.

Had it for a year and bought it to get into Greenlaning. Job done and I now have three other 2 stroke dirt bikes hence the 4 stroke needs to go. Had valves adjusted about 10 rides ago along with brake rebuilds with pads and discs, valves adjusted, fork seals replaced, rear tyre and chain and sprockets. Not missed a beat in the last year and very low maintenance but whilst not a full on enduro, still jumps and lands ok and has plenty of power for off road work. My mate Stewie loves it and Silky has seen it in action a fair few times. Tax is about to run out so will come with a year, will have to check MOT status but if it's due soon I'll chuck another year on it.

The pictures are from when I bought the bike but give a decent feel for it.

XR250 or DR350 are good starter bikes simple and bullet proof.

If it helps, my mate recently rode an XR250 around 150 miles home after buying it, much on motorway. It held 70 easily apparently.

12 months ago I'd have been all over this, it sounds like a great first 'laner, but I bought a 125 2T (and have been fixing it ever since!).

XR250's are great starter bikes and at £1k you should easily be able to get your money back if/when you decide to change. For the long road slog though I'd go for the XR400 but you probably won't find a decent one for a grand.

WR 400 cc + is all you will ever need.
More power than really needed offroad + big enough for road work + ultra reliable (if you go for pre 2002 models).
They look good too .. especially when compared to the XR or DRZ etc.

I sold my one (2000 model I think) for £1300.
Thats the going price ish... certainly under £1500

I was thinking about the 400, but I kind of came to Joes conclusion, I can flog the 250 and go for something more powerful if I require. But to start and get a taste the 250 would be perfect.

Matt a 520 is too big for what I want certainly at first. I plan on viewing BigTodyD's bike at some point in the next few weeks. I'm off to try some kit on now Cool
