Winter Gloves

After finding myself out there the other day at a cool -12 degrees I've decided that perhaps I need to upgrade my winter glove. The ones I have are a little too bulky around the wrist which means I can't do the sleeve up properly on my jacket. Anyone got any good recommendations for gloves this time of year?

As map says it has been covered, but new stuff comes out all the time.

Recently I purchased a pair of Bikers Koln gloves which are compact enough to go under sleeve cuffs. Being Gore-Tex they're windproof, but even with silk liners, heated grips on maximum, and hand guards at -7deg C doing 60-65mph on the M5 in freezing fog two weeks ago I thought I'd actually had my fingers amputated!

I picked up a pair of Tech 3 Ottos for £20 last week and so far have been happy with them.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the obvious. Core temprature is one of the biggest causes of cold fingers on bikes. Doesnt matter what gloves you wear if your not keeping your body warm.

Get yourself some nice winter gloves, It is a case of you get what you pay for but most important make sure that your body is kept warm. Lots of layers. I went to work this evening and left at midnight wearing Boxers, Jeans, Thick woolly socks, lined textiles and boots on my lower half. T shirt, work shirt, fleecy top, neck tube and lined textile jacket on my upper. The gloves I have arent overly expensive, £30 or so and I found they were fine. Finger tips got a little cold after half an hour but It wasnt enough to bother me.

Make sure your core temprature is kept high and your hands wont freeze as quick.

I agree with pinkyfloyd, I now realise why on some journeys to and from work are worse than others, first I thought it was a temperature thing but I found I was warmer at night, which is wierd. But I'm now convinced it was the fact that I was not wearing my usual fleece each time.
I have also found that getting a pair of gauntlets style gloves has helped massively. If you can restrict heat loss around the wrist you may find it takes much longer to get cold fingers!
One last comment, I have rolled about in the snow naked with only a pair of slippers on and yes my toes got very cold, amongst other things, not advisable.

Indeed, I've got a pair of £30 ish winter gloves and they are fine if you take some breaks, and that was without liners or heated grips or shields at ~80mph.

Rode from Portsmouth to Bournemouth, via So'ton and Lyndhurst, on Tuesday this week, minus temperatures wearing my Musto base and mid layers under an RST two piece, and my hands were kept warm with Alpinestar Jets. Great kit.

Floydy is spot on, got to keep the core warm as well as your hands...
