Hi,
I understand this has been covered 200million times, but i searched and couldnt find answers :/

Ok, i was bored and while ebaying, i bought a bike (well, technically a moped) without realising our normal tow-car was scrapped! oops.
So, im stuck with this moped, and the only way ive got of transporting it is in my car! It only cost me £102 so i dont want to pay for van hire or anything because im a cheapskate!!

Ive taken out the rear seats, but i still dont think theres enough room, so im planning to remove the front passenger seat, and have the bike travelling upright, down the length of the car.
Few concerns
Thumbs Up How do i stop it breaking a window?
Thumbs Up How can i stop it falling over/on to me while driving?
Thumbs Up How do i stop it sliding forwards/backwards?
Thumbs Up Is it legal?
Thumbs Up What the hell do i do if it wont go in? Its a 3hour 1way trip Sad

BTW: Car is a Fiesta Mk4
Bike is a 1994 Honda SH50! Cool

I would put the passenger seat bolts back in the floor pan and use these to try and strap down. Or you could run straps around the window frame and try and secure that way.

As long as you can see out the side windows and see the mirrors etc then I can't see why you would get any bother.

If it won't go in your FCUK'd.

Why don't you look into a courier on ebay. they only want 80 - 90 quid to deliver nationwide. It's going to cost a fair amount in petrol and possible damage to the car so it's got to be worth some thought.

You can rent a van for around 40 quid, and you have to pay for the petrol.

Years ago, I had a Citreon LNA.Iit was like a normal small car with the back chopped off! Backseats were only good for passengers with no legs, and the 'boot' could squeeze maybe two or three carrier bags! Regularly used to get my Trials-Bike in the back.... after I found out I couldn't get a tow-bar for it!
Wheels off, tank off, bars off. Seats down, and stack.
Petrol tank in the pasenger seat footwell, in a bin-bag.
Job-Done.
Plenty of examples on here of people cramming 600 sports and the like into Saxo's and stuff, to recover a wreck, or pick up a project.
Just take a socket set, some spanners and pack some old blankets and stuff for padding & packing.
If you want to be fancy, ie-downs on seat-belt anchorages work well.

Thumbs Up How do i stop it breaking a window?
Issue it with an ASBO.
Thumbs Up How can i stop it falling over/on to me while driving?
Dont let it get drunk before setting off.
Thumbs Up How do i stop it sliding forwards/backwards?
Do a wheelie all the way home so it stays in the back.
Thumbs Up Is it legal?
Only if you're a catholic bishop.
Thumbs Up What the hell do i do if it wont go in? Its a 3hour 1way trip Sad
Use vasaline or KY jelly.

BTW: Car is a Fiesta Mk4

[he means "tie-downs"]

which are those webbing things with a ratchety sort of buckle on the end.

If transporting a bike in full (on a ute/van/lorry or indeed train/chunnel/plane) these are your best bet.

They come in different sizes, and you need more than one.

https://www.dawson-group.com/up_files/35mm-ratchet-lashing-ratchet-tie-down-strap.jpg

In fact, if you don't have a ute/van then this picture is pointless, but it will give you the general idea of a possible way to tie down a bike in a sensible flat-bedded arrangement.

https://www.discountramps.com/images/motorcycle-tie-downs.jpg

But in a small car: like ^^^they said ^^^ prolly best to strip it down a bit Laughing

Dont tempt me!! Razz
This was the last major thing i used the roof rack for:
https://i279.photobucket.com/albums/kk125/MartayP/P090910_16320002-1.jpg

Tyre blew out, so we removed the wheels, lifted it up there, and i drove it home. Hit 70mph! People were looking at me though Shocked Confused

Thanks for all the advice. Im leaving in the morning to get it. Im leaving the comfort of East Anglia for the wild outbacks of the midlands and god knows where else. If you see a purple fiesta with roofrack, spotlights, strobes, huge arial, numerous stickers and honda 50 inside, wave Very Happy

Is that Fiasco Purple or 'Dark Aubergine'?
Looks like the colour Snowie liked on a Fucus, when she chose it for 'the-Pup', but looks darker on the bits we've painted.
Best of luck with the expedition, anyway....
When you get to Leicester, and the engine starts labouring, dont worry, it's not broke... that'll be a 'hill'... you may need to change down a gear.... Wink
(Couldn't resist! Old family joke, when my cousin who lived in Norwich asked for directions to come visit)

Not sure about the legality of all this although I've managed to get both my bikes into the back of cars, managed to get both into fairly small cars. The GS500 into the back of an A3 and a VFR400 into the back of an Astra. The boot was slightly open however we'd tied it down in both cases but we still had space for 2 people in the car which made getting the bikes in and out easier!

Most decorative.

Left here at 10am this morning, got in at about 5:45pm!!
Fking M1 was standstill! Sad

Anywho, the bike went in, had to strip it slightly more than i wanted to, but it went in! Front wheel out, side panels off (so i didnt break them) exhaust off (to remove the rear wheel) and the rear wheel off.

Pics:
Getting it in. By this point, i realised the front wheel had to come out.

I was SO tempted to do that!! As you can see, i turned the handlebars to roll up the window. Plus, the other side of the handlebars would keep poking me in the eye Laughing
