Quick question is there any ways to fade two colours together using spray paint?

I was thinking spraying my lighter colour on first then my darker colour on after , but where i want it fading hold the can further away to give it a lighter coat.

Would this work?

Or is there any other way to do it?

It is possible with rattle cans but you don't always get a consistant fade and can generally look fairly tacky.

The best way to do it is with an airbrush (if small scale, use a larger air gun if large scale). Or anything where you can control the amount of paint flow.

If you must use rattle cans, do a few testers on a bit of old plastic or something so you can see how it will look. With enough practise you should be able to get it looking reasonable but it will never look as good as an airbrush.

What are you painting out of curiousity?

you can also buy a airbrush hat connects to your paint can. their called gorilla brushes or something along them lines. you can then control the paint flow out the can...

I faded green into black on an undertray by painting 2/3 of the panel green and 1/3 black, I then used a piece of paper to mask off the green and slowly moved it up while moving the can further away to create a fade out, it was a short fade as that was the design. Up close it just looks like a speckled gradient but for spray cans I was more than happy.

Just took a couple of pics as I still have it, unfortunately my chain snapped, hitting the undertray which chipped and cracked the paint so it's a bit wrecked but ignore that.

Oh just make sure your nozzle is nice and clean, halfords cans in my experience have poor spray distribution so I didn't use them for this. Also start off the panel and then swipe across it and releasing off the other side so you've less chance of getting spits and large splats of paint which will really show and ruin it if your doing such an effect.
