Not long ago, I bought a bike off ebay for just under £1200 , the seller listed as paypal only, huh ! Anyway I called him after the sale and asked if he would take cash & save a few quid in fees, also as I didn't have the amount in the bank, so I would have to put it in , " No I want to do it propper through ebay " he said, I think he thought it was just £20 ebay sellers fee ? So I paid with pp & just wondering how much it would have cost him in fees ?
Also when he delivered the bike, the tax disc with 9 month left had fallen off , so I insisted he gave me £15 to re'tax it ,which he did after a bit of griping . ( Was that wrong , would you have ?) I know I could have paid £7 & sent for a replacement & probably would have been ok riding it without , but I just wanted it to be propper & be able to park up without getting a ticket . Neutral

How do you know it fell off? And that he hasn't returned it for refund before he sold it? Meaning you couldn't have got it for £7

That will be £36.00 then.
I stipulate £50 none refundable deposit via PP and the rest in folding money.

When I bought my bike I paid a £50 deposit with paypall then took the full amount in cash to the seller. He refunded the deposit, saving himself a couple of quid in fee's and I handed him the full amount.

Because you can't get a refund from a £15 tax disc .

Although I usually stipulate the £50 through paypal, if the bloke rings up pretty quickly and says hell bring it all in cash I don't usually mind. I've never had a problem with people who do that.

If someone asked for the full amount via paypal up front I would be very suspicious if I hadn't been to see the bike.

This'll be very amusing in a piss-me-right-off-way when the continuous insurance scheme comes in this year then! Laughing

Ariel Badger That will be £36.00

So that would be
£8 to list it
£20 ebay selling fee
£36 paypal
£15 tax
In total £79 to sell it , Bless him Thinking
No wonder he didn't leave any feedback Neutral

Never knew this, I always keep them taxed for full year anyway, or sell them with tax on.

If I were him I'd have insisted on cash for the vast majority of it. Paypal are very quick to whip the money back from you if a buyer reports a problem.

It certainly gives you more teeth as a buyer because Paypal usually come out on the buyer's side. It will have cost him a fortune in fees, all for less secure funds!
