Well it's all been happening here over the last week,

I live in a very small village, if you count all the folk living in the immediate area we might muster 400.
Anyway, as the law requires over here, last weekend a new major was voted in. Well actually he wasn't, apparently some spoiled ballot papers had been counted which resulted in a draw.
The mayoral position is a cushy number here, because he who sits on the mayoral throne can accumulate mucho Euro, via the brown envelope democracy process we have.

One of the candidates who, by the way, doesn't even live in the village got a tad upset.
He went off on one, big time, shouting and bawling, and threatening, violent, reprisals on those who didn't vote for him. The direct translation, from the Greek, was that he is going to "stamp on the necks" of those who had the temerity not to vote for him.
Things got way out of hand, in the Taverna, when he punched his, 20 year old, daughter in the face when she was trying to calm him down, why no one planted the, weasly, little shit, I don't know.
He was eventually, forcibly, removed from the premises after some one threw a pint of water over him. Laughing

You really couldn't make this stuff up.
Anyway, the election now has to be re-run tomorrow, Xmas eve FFS, which means the woman beater probably won't be able to muster his cronies up here to vote. Apparently some of his supporters are now changing their vote having witnessed his performance.

In other news,and in the spirit of the season, guess which week our postmaster decided to take his holidays?
Yep, 19/12 to 01/01, perfect timing, fcukin' moron.
Before disappearing on his vacation he informed us that we'd be able to collect our mail from the Post Office rather than our postal boxes.
The ex-pat community are now up in arms, (personally, I couldn't care less), as it's been discovered that there has been no overseas mail received for three weeks, no crimbo pressies for them!
There is however a huge pile of domestic mail, mainly bills, now languishing in the Post Office building. Laughing

Apparently it's the season of good will to all men! Rolling Eyes

Well it would seem that punching a family member and issuing threats of violence does not garner public support when on the hustings.
The violent, mayoral wannabe lost by over a hundred votes, in the re-run. Very Happy

Equally as despicable though, IMO, was the fact that the local priest, having witnessed last weeks events, was trying to encourage the locals to vote for this scumbag! Evil or Very Mad
