Do the utmost to safeguard it.

Just posting for info really.

The other day the DVLA sent me two different driving licences, both parts. Belonging to people who have never (or at least not in the last five years) lived at this address. Yet, they have my address printed on the licence. So it isn't a postal cock up.

I assume for a photocard renewal (or similar standard procedure) as both people were quite old.

Just to illustrate how utterly incompetent they (The DVLA) are.

If you are going to send your licence anywhere near Swansea through the post, get several certified copies first.

(Because when you send them in the only certified copy you have, in an effort to unfuck the situation, they will lose that as well).

Stool bory crow.

I was going to suggest it may the previous person did not updating their records, but for two completely different licences, it seems very unlikely.

They lost mine, then revoked my licence because I hadn't sent it to them (I did but they lost it)
Then they wanted to charge me for another licence because i wouldn't send my licence to them (because i already had and they lost it)

Eventually after some discussion with various tards i get put through to someone in charge that seemed to have a bit of common but sent a form in recorded, was signed for on the thurs, they dealt with it on the tues.
This meant due to their incompetence i should have been sat at home losing hundreds of pounds but i never actually didn't drive and not did got someone to ride me around on my bike and in car Wink

The system ate my licence and I had to do a CBT and a DAS about 8 years ago. I did the DAS on a hand change vintage Ariel from 1930. I did have to lie about the HP. Mr. Green

That reminds me, Ariel, about a particular gentleman. In the past, he had licences for several categories (car, bike, passenger etc). He decided on taking his HGV licence. He passed the practical and sent his licence to the DVLA to get the entitlement put on. The DVLA ballsed it up, lost his details and any record of previous entitlements. He had to take EVERYTHING again.

I have heard tales of this happening but no actual stories that anyone can really confirm, I don't doubt it happens though. Apparently they won't accept photocopies of your licence as proof you ever held the categories either so you have to be prepared.

Whenever I send it off I photocopy it and I also photograph and take a quick video of it while shining a UV light on it to display the markings, if that's not proof I don't know what is. If they really wanted to be arses then i'd involve previous insurers who had done licence checks on me, employers who had done the same and any police records to show my licence had been confirmed, they'd never make me take a test again.

When I sent mine off last time, I enclosed a letter asking them not to omit my bike licence as they did with my father a few years ago. And asking them for a new plastic cover.

I got both the new plastic cover and the new licence back in good order. Thumbs Up

Same here, I would never have believe it, but it was in the news a few years ago. I will try and see if I can find it. And there is no way they would make me take all my tests again! Their error, they can sort it.
