Hi there,

I want to get UK cover for my bike that will cover recovery to anywhere in the UK, I'm also thinking that in about 9-10 months time I'm going on a 5-6 week trip throughout Europe, I'm wondering if its worth just getting annual Euro Cover now rather than update/ get single trip cover in the future.

If I had Euro cover I'd ideally like the option with recovery of my vehicle back to the UK.

How much is this likely to cost with a bike? Who are the best people to look at? Anyone got any codes/ideas, or should I just get Uk cover for now and worry about eu cover in 10 months time?

I used
https://www.vehicle-rescue.com/european-breakdown-cover.php

For my france trip, they were really good when my BMW's rear diff lunched itself. Got someone out quickly. Had the bike stored in france and then recovered back to my house a couple of weeks later.

All no hassle.

If it hadn't been a Saturday, when i was coming home on the monday, they would have organised me a hire car and paid to change my ferry booking. I was riding with others so went pillion for the rest of the weekend and on the monday ferry trip. They also offered me a taxi to get me back to the hotel.

The only downside is if your bike isn't worth a lot, they will pay out the value rather than recover if recovery costs more than its worth. Luckily my bike was worth over 5k so there was no question about it coming back.

I'd personally go with a specialist company for eu cover rather than AA or similar.

All included with my insurance policy from carol Nash. To be honest this was the clincher.. the overall saving made it a steal. No need for anything else.

Sooner or later opinions fade and the name on the tank matters not. I think that happens somewhere between 3rd and 4th gear. Enjoy the ride... everything else takes care of itself.

ADAC
https://www.adac.de/mitgliedschaft/adac_membership/default.aspx

79,50 €, german company but for the equivalent of about £70 for annual cover throughout europe for anything you are driving/riding at the time and the quality of service it's the mutts

If you break down in the UK they send the AA

The AA wanted £100 just to add extension to existing membership for one trip

When we were in Spain earlier this year two riders had to return to the UK - one through injury and one through mechanical failure. 'Injury' man was recovered on a separate recovery policy without an issue, as per Jay's case. 'Mechanical failure' man was covered automatically through his Carol Nash policy and was told his bike wasn't worth enough to cover the recovery. The local dealer had majorly mis-diagnosed the problem, so he ended up finding his own way back with his bike organised by his wife from the UK. The bikes were not that different in value either (sub £500 difference) and no consideration was made for all the kit on board which added up to a fair bit too.

I'm sure you don't need reminding, so don't be offended, but just a make sure you read the small print very carefully and get the policy that suits you best for the places you will be travelling.

Oh, and in case you were wondering the Spanish Dealer said it was a complete engine rebuild, it was actually only a new camchain that was needed! Rolling Eyes

I use NCI rescue, goes by various other names too such as rescue my car. I can't actually recommend them because i've not needed to use them, only ever called on my breakdown once in 2004 and that was with international breakdown were no hassle.

I pay £86 for an annual personal policy which covers me as driver or passenger in any vehicle throughout europe, including relay to destination or home.

If you take out in England it should give you about 90 days european cover, but on the safe side inform them the rough dates your trip is going to be.

As above.

Most offer 90 days per year for European trip, just check that it covers for accidents Thumbs Up

^^^ The smart money goes on ADAC - I've got the same as above, but on a joint policy. Works out as a pittance for the cover you get.

AutoAid. Pay and claim though (they do pay, i've used them), so have a credit card/means to pay significant monies out and you're onto a winner.
