Just need to know if there are any other British bike companies still manufacturing bikes in this country.

Cheers, Dodd

Hi

Think the Hesketh bikes are still in limited production, and maybe BSA are still building bikes (they were building off road bikes for export to Africa and the like using Yamaha engines).

All the best

Keith

Keith,
BSA are or were making some bikes, but the name is owned by a swiss company (possibly Rotax) as far as I know.

Even if I'm wrong about that, I'm 99% sure its no longer British owned (Maybe they are assembling the bikes in switzerland?).

Hesketh went bust afaik, and Norton are technically British I think, but a US company has bought the rights to the Norton name.

I'm still sure its only Triumph and CCM.

Looking to trade up to a quality piece of British engineering Dodd? Wink Smile

I'm not too sure but CCM nick the engine from somewhere else and just manufacture everything else. Correct me if I'm wrong, I'm only trying to clear old memorys of watching a very old review on TV about the company.

CCM used to use Rotax and they now then used suzuki.

Their latest ones use the DRZ400 engines (slightly modified though)

Rotax is an Austrian company but is owned by Bombardier who are Canadian. Think the BSA name is still UK owned, possibly by Andover Norton who are the UK Rotax importer.

Heskeths are still being built I think by Mick Broome (from memory) who took over production when Hesketh went bust 15~20 years ago. The numbers are not large but they are still going.

Don't think anything of the old Norton brand is still UK owned.

There are also numerous frame builders for race bikes who can build you pretty much a complete bike, such as Spondon Engineering.

All the best

Keith

Swiss, Austrian its all the same to me. They both have lots of snow and I have a cold so I am having difficulty concentrating! Smile

Fairy nuff.

I thought that the guy who started up the whole nemesis project still owned the rights to that name and the design or something. I know that Norton (US) are only going to make cruisers Sad

True, Never thought of that. Harris make frames too don't they? At least they used to. Harris Magnum... Mmmmmmm! Smile

Very Happy

Yep, cold with loads of people speaking variations on German.

Not even going there! There is a German guy who seems to own the European rights, but not the UK rights. There is the American company with the USA rights and I am not sure about the UK rights but I think they went to the USA.

Nothing serious seems to have happened with Norton in the UK for about a decade. The Norton race bikes finished their careers pretty much independent of the factory, and I suspect the Nemesis project was never really going anywhere.

They certainly used to make quite a few (including building the some frames for the Yamaha YZR500 engined GP bikes for privateers in the early 1990's), but I haven't heard about any for a while. Not sure if Tigercraft are still building frames, or Hijiera.

All the best

Cheers everyone.

Nah I aint buying a new bike... it's just that my IT key skills instructor set us the task of using the internet to find out if there are any other British companies still making bikes. I totally forgot about CCM Sad

From what I can tell, Vincent bikes are still in very limited (handbuilt by 1 guy) production too

Well, you can buy all the parts to build one and there is a guy who will build you one. It would cost you rather more than a Benelli Tornado LE. Cannot remember if he is even in the UK.

All the best

Hi

Do you mean Rickman? If so they were British. No idea if they are still in business, but I think they landed up making aftermarket fairings and the like.

All the best

Keith
