bloody pigs!!

7.30 this morning, i get pulled for speeding by an undercover vauxhall omega... 48mph in a 30mph, my bad i know, road was empty, i know the road like the back of my hand, but still no excuse!! Anyways, i'm now £60 worse off and 3 points less on my licence. What a wonderful way to start the day!

One thing worried me was the fact that the copper didnt believe I hadnt been drinking... asked me countless amounts of times then breathalysed me... the thought of booze that early in the morning personally does nothing for me, would have to be a right hardened alcoholic for that!

How many other people have endorsements on their licence and how much of a change have you noticed when it comes to insurance?

My only other dilemma is that my insurance expires shortly... should I renew the insurance before I get the endorsements, or should I keep bike locked up in the garage for the winter then just start the insurance again in Jan/Feb time?

I got pretty much the same thing back in May, 43mph in a 30. 8:00am. Certainly isnt a good way to start the day. You're lucky you didn't get 6 points. I think you can get 3 points per every 15mph over the limit. Insurance never went up that much next time. However, someone at my work recently said that you dont have to declare speeding offences on your insurance. Not sure if that's true or not. Might be worth a look though.

cheers, nice one, but I'm sure its an offence not to declare any endorsements/penalties when applying for insurance?

I have 3 points on my licence and got a £60 fine.

I went through an amber light and there was a police car behind me which I didnt know about until they told me.

Taught me a little bit to not go through amber lights Razz but then who doesn't go through them unnecessarily. There was no way I would have been able to stop from 30mph in under 2-3 metres.

Also been stopped for not having a front L plate but other than that I have nothing. Just the 3 points.

Three points on your licence will increase your premium by £196

Six points on your licence will increase your premium by £512

Nine points on your licence will increase your premium by nearly £1,500

Shocked

EDIT: Actually I'm not sure if this is actually in place yet. I just read that it's going to be implemented.

Where did you get that from? It depends on the insurance company, and what the points are for.

My license is clean (/me wanders off to go and touch lots of big trees) Smile

And the drinking thing is fair enough, but I think they were hoping for you to admit something as I think they can do you with that if you didn't get breathalyzed maybe?

Quote:
The £400m insurance bill

Motorists penalised for speeding in 2003 face a £400m hike in insurance premiums over the next five years, according to analysis by Cyclops, the GPS based in-car speed camera alert system.

Over 2m drivers are expected to receive a fixed three-point penalty this year after being snapped by one of the 5,000 speed and road safety cameras dotted across the UK. In 1996, 262,200 people received an endorsement.

With insurers requiring details of speed-related offences committed in the last five years, the average car owner will face an extra £196 bill on top of their normal premiums for their first three points according to Cyclops.

However, the financial cost of the endorsement increases dramatically for those with six points - £512.85 on average over the 5 years - and nine points – a staggering £1,419.40 or 71 percent increase in premiums.

For example, Cyclops found that a 25-year-old female driving a Vauxhall Corsa 1.4 SRi living in Swindon would see her average premium jump from £306.10 for a clean licence to £554.94 for nine points – a 81 percent increase. Similarly, a 55-year-old male driving a Toyota Corolla in Wimbledon would see his premiums rise by 58 percent from £327.63 to £518.66.

If every driver penalised this year already had an SP30 endorsement, they would have a collective £1bn extra insurance bill over the next five years.

Confused.com, the UKs first online car insurance supermarket, says that 11 percent of its visitors register with at least one speed related motoring offence. The situation is compounded by the fact that premiums continue to rise, with Tesco Insurance reporting a 3.5 percent increase during the last quarter.

More points also means less choice with some insurers refusing to quote for motorists with two offences or more. For those with three SP30s to their name, only 1 in 2 of the panel of 12 intermediaries and insurers would provide a quote.

According to Cyclops, which pinpoints the position of cameras for its users, the number of fixed sites has increased by 22 percent nationally since October 2002, and shows no signs of slowing.

"The fear," says Steve Wreford, managing director of Cyclops, "is that as the number of penalised motorists rises, along with the number of cameras, a culture of non-declaration will emerge as premiums begin to soar."

Wreford also warned that drivers must immediately inform their insurer of any new penalty. "It is considered a material fact and failure to do so, as many do, will leave the door open for your insurer to dispute any future claim."

The first 3 points will not affect your premium at all with most insurance companies. 6points on will, I asked mine about an SP50 (speeding on a motorway) and 6points and they said it won't affect the premium until renewal and then it'd be about £50 extra. But it all depends on the offence code too, a dangerous driving one will increase it by a lot most likely.

They brethalise people at that time of the morning because a lot of people don't realise that after a night out and an early morning you can still be way over the limit.

A lot of kiddie binge drinkers drink an absolute skinful - stop drinking at 3 in the morning then drive to work at 7 extremely over the limit.

Of course you are on a motorbike so therefore you are an irresponsible (not entering into the discussion of responsibility with speed Laughing ) kiddy binge drinker ..... Laughing

Thats a load of rubbish, really you should declare the points immediately to your insurance company.

When you take out insurance next, if you renew before getting the points you will still have to tell them as they are pending. You will be asked if you have any endorsements current or impending, so not telling them could well void your insurance if they so wished.

An SP30 is not likely to make much difference on your insurance, so I wouldn't really worry about it.

dont worry about the insurance as it wont make much difference anyway. Dunno what bike it is but its worth keeping it insured in case some twat nicks it, but trying to insure it before the endorsement shows on the licence wont work anyway cos the endorsement starts from the day the offense was committed.. i know ive committed enough when i was despatching..... next time tell them its a company vehicle and you are unsure who is riding it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
