kymco miler 125 05-plate, comes with 12 month MOT and tax, runs with no probs
or
Honda pantheon R reg, no MOT but offered to MOT before purchase, hasnt been ridden for 3 years (garaged due to no time but does start)

Both done around 5,000 miles
what do you think would be best?

Neither. Do your CBT first - you may love it, you may find it's just not something you enjoy.

I'd go for the Honda.

I dont know how much they're up for, but I'd be inclinded to look for a newer Honda example - You can get some reasonable deals privately on Honda scoots.

I had a Kymco many years ago, and it was a mistake buying it. In saying that their quality has gone up significantly in the past years, and appear to be making some decent scoots.

However common sense says pick a Honda - They're good trust worthy and have a residual value. After all it says somethign about the bikes if one if xx many years older and still commanding the same price.

there paying for reliablity.

My £500 CHINESE 125 has NEVER put a foot wrong, used it daily since early last may when I got it, how much more reliable can you get than never breaking down or failing to start immediately?

And Kymco have a reputation as one of the better Taiwanese brands, along the lines of SYM etc. If they were the same age scoots, or even a year or two between them, then i'd say the Honda is the better bet because they ARE better quality. but not enough to warrant an R reg over an 05. or to warrant a bike that isn't being used, so may (and probably will) have underlying issues that will surface once it's put back on the road against a bike that IS being used and is proving reliable and faultless.

There IS merit to the Honda name, yes of course. But a lot of the time it's way over-estimated.
