Removing A2 restriction

Well, I'm coming nicely up to 2 years since I passed my test. Soo...can I just go shopping for something with a bit of grunt, or do I need to send my license of to DVLA to get the A2 restriction lifted?

That's an interesting technical question, and I expect if you ask the DVLA twice you'll get two different answer. If you ask them to cite the statute, they'll probably have you sent to Guantanamo.

In practice, the DVLA say that you can continue to ride/drive even when not in possession of a physical license (i.e. when you've surrendered it for replacement). However, I don't think that's actually accounted for in the statutes: not showing a license on demand is an offence, and a producer only gives you 7 days to come up with one. However again, any sane copper, CPS goon or Magistrate will ultimately go by what Computer Says, so you'll be exonerated.

So I'd assume that the same applies to the restriction. Apply for a new license - do not surrender your current one, just say you've "lost" it in case the DVLA mongs "lose" your A entitlement - then get your 'Busa right away. Even if you do get nabbed by an ignorant copper who knows just enough to be dangerous, Computer Says should sort it out eventually.

I'd just ride with your licence as it is. The >33bhp code is valid for two years, so if it's two years past your pass date on the photocard, then the code is invalid?

In theory that *shouldn't* be able to be an issue with mine, since the only entitlement on there is the A2 - there's no car entitlement yet. Still, this is the DVLA we're talking about, so best not to take any chances!

Been over 6 months now and I haven't sent off to get mine removed, there is no point. The license says the pass date anyone can add two years to that and realise you are fully licensed.

I don't think I'll be bothering then. There's enough horror stories of people losing things off their license when they don't want anything special, I dread to think what'd come back if I actually asked them to remove something motorcycle related!

I will keep a copy of that letter though Smile

When I got a "replacement" for my "lost" license, an expired SP30 was removed. Why would an expired 25kW endorsement be treated any differently? It's not a change of details, it's just removing expired and irrelevant endorsements.

Anyway, shocked that DVLA actually showed some common sense. Shocked

Nope I'd lost my licence at least twice since my restriction ended, I asked them to take it off once they said they couldn't.

Well, I guess that's more like the level of service and sense that we've come to expect from the DVLA.

What's their story then? Spend £20 to get a replacement with the endorsement, send it straight back in with another £20 to get the endorsement removed? Laughing
