Drinking yourself sober

Of course in the literal sense it's impossible to get sober from drinking more, but here's how it tends to work for me:
Somewhere in the range of 8-12 drinks (depending on the day and speed of consumption) I start to feel almost TOO drunk. Not sick, but just a bit too much to handle. Then if I keep going after that (slow and careful) I get to a stage at around 10-15 where I feel almost sober. I know I'm not, but I can literally walk in a perfectly straight line and behave myself, and I feel less drunk than I was 3 drinks ago. At this stage I can usually keep drinking for the rest of the night at a reasonable pace, then wake up feeling like death and usually don't remember a whole lot
Anyone else have this?

Yeah but only used to happen when i was a heavy drinker, used to drink with my uncle when i was 15 or16 and we'd regularly drink from friday evening all the way through to sunday lunch with no help from stimulants, we'd be pissed as newts on friday night but as you said feeling ok for the next two days of booze.

Happens with weed too i find, if i get wrecked from a smoke to the point where you're sinking into the seat, getting it in waves and feeling nauseus etc . . . Spark another one up and feel right as rain.

For me on the very odd occasion i do it these days its about blowing off steam.

If i've had a month or two of stress, and its not going great at home i find going out to a back street boozer with old mates and getting absolutely smashed helps me to blow off steam.

Post hangover, things feel less stressful and i can approach problems from a different angle and outlook.

Works for me.

True about it happening with weed!
What do I get out of it? Not much, but when we start drinking with dinner at 8, and get out of a club at 9am, it's hard not to get in quite a few drinks... Obviously this isn't an every weekend kind of thing, it happens every now and then, just like me taking a few things here and there: every other month at most
Last night I was pretty trashed, and I reckon a couple more would have gotten me to that fake sober state, but instead I walked home swaying to the point of almost falling over I've had much more than that and walked a straight line with no problem, so CCTV isn't needed..
I know it's stupid to drink that much but why not do it while I'm young and can handle it?

I drink myself bored. 10 pints in 2 1/2 half hours last friday. I run out of money and had to borrow a tenner. Still wasn't pissed. Ho hum.

Usually goes something like - drink loads at cheapish pub. Get really rather drunk due to high rate of alcohol per hour. Go to more expensive pub/club with big queues - drunkness level decreases because alcohol per hour rate is considerably lower than required to maintain current state of drunkeness.

My 18th last saturday, I had played rugby in wellington and had to get the coach back after, I had my first travelling yard at their clubhouse, before getting some beers onboard, having to shotgun cans and then drinking vodka from the bottle, we arrived at a pub on the way back still feeling alright. A tequila and a couple more points and w left the pub, another excessive amount of vodka and i started to realise I was twated. I got naked to go 'skidiving' before collapsing throwing up and spending the rest of the journey crawled up naked. I then arrived at Newquay to be dressed by the chairman and the president. Therefore my answer to your question is no!

I think the reason I've been drinking so heavily over the past year or so is cause of my relationships before that. Being stuck in relationships from the age of 15 to 20 kind of restricted the amount of partying I could do, especially since my first gf (3 and a half years) didn't enjoy having more than one or 2 drinks.
About it being big or clever: I don't think it's either. I drink to have fun, not to impress anyone

I used to drink infrequently at University but since the whole drinking to death incident with my Mum's boyfriend I have given up on it all together.

I never really understood the appeal in being so wasted you can't walk. I only ever got myself into that state once and that scared me.

I worry sometimes that I'm old before my time. I'm far too sensible with stuff like alcohol and money and I worry it might start to piss off my girlfriend. I just won't go out anymore because I can't stand being around people who are wasted and I find clubs boring sober.

A night in with a coffee and some Deep Purple does me fine.

It's a strange thing that I can't convey to my friends but I worry about people who drink excessively and see it as some sort of badge of honor. I guess living with an alcoholic shows you the horrors of such things. Maybe you should just take it easy, it won't do you any good in the long run and even though you say you won't get addicted you never know.

Both my parents are alcoholics in different ways, as well as a few other relatives, so I'm always looking out for myself in that department, never turning a blind eye to the possibility and therefore I'm always on guard. I got pretty addicted to online poker for a while last year as well, and pissed away quite a bit of money. Got it under control and now I only play every now and then, and deposit very small amounts when I do; again always looking out for the signs of addiction as I can spot them easily now.
