The woman I bought my Kymco Hipster from had an attachment fitted coming off the battery allowing her trickle charger to plug in to it without having to use those clip things (not very mech savvy am I!). My bike wouldn't start so I transfered it to the back garden (no mean task as it's up a narrow alleyway and through a gate that's not wide enough), and that is where it has sat for weeks.
I brought a trickle charger, plugged it in today and the red light comes on and says 'discharging' so I unplugged it again. Yet, when I try and turn the bike over, it lets out a pathetic buzz sound.
I have started it using the kickstart and left it to run whilst I went in for a cuppa. About fifteen minutes later I switched it off and tried to turn it over with the start switch (unmech savvy again) and it buzzed again. Kick start- worked.
Does the battery need charging or does the bike just need to go for a ride out please? Or is there a fault? Huh?!

Thanks you.
Do you think solar power trickle chargers are any good? My bike is always outside and I don't use the bike much as I drive my car all day

Unless it has an alarm fitted, you can take the battery off and give it a charge.

Just remember to take the battery off charge and fit it back onto the bike. Otherwise you will look a plank if you are sitting on the bike with all your gear on trying to start it and the battery is still on charge. Wink

... and then writing stupid questions on bike forums like 'Why doesn't my bike work?'!

What difference does it make taking the battery off then? It has the adapter thingy coming directly off the battery to make life easier... apparently

ps are you writing from experience?? Did YOU try to start yours whilst the battery watched from a distance with a smirk on it's face?? Wink

I would rather use a proper battery charger than a solar powered one.

I have suffered my bike having a flat battery, but I have never suffered from the battery not been on the bike Thumbs Up
