Hi guys,

I bought a 1973 Honda CB125S last September with an aim to restoring it. The one I found had MOT till October and the tax doesn't run out till the end of February so you can see that this bike was no barn find.
The problem I have is now that the bike has been stripped I can't seem to find any evidence of a frame number. I suspect that the bike was involved in accident at some time. The front fork shrouds seem to have originally been yellow(the bike is red) and therefore a replacements and after stripping the frame on the headstock to see if a number was present under the paint there is no evidence of one ever being there, not even one that has been ground off; so this leads me to believe that the frame was a replacement.
I only have the last MOT and that shows VIN 'Not Found' and the MOT checker shows history of the previous four MOTS .I should add that the engine number does match the V5. My question is what should I do?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Mike

Stamp the VIN on the frame, buy a blank plate from this dodgy geezer, stamp the VIN on it as well, get on with your life.

I'm surprised anyone managed to get an MOT without a stamped VIN number on the headstock

I was once refused an MOT due to the frame having been powdercoated which had obscured the VIN, had to scrape the powdercoat off with a knife.

Incidentally you don't need the aluminum plate for an MOT, just the stamped one on the headstock

Indeed, the VIN plate is just a more obvious copy of it - it'll make the bike easier to sell, to anyone who doesn't know that the frame VIN is definitive.
