I like you oilman, you're alright, but your sales aren't really sales.

Both times I have checked on your savings and both times the sale price is also the price or more or less a few pence from what I have paid for previously.

Maybe everyone puts up prices and then give discounts, I don't know, but still, it bugs me.

It's difficult to do offers that really stand out with the competition in the market. Being honest, most of our offers work out at similar prices as we only have a certain margin to play with. Free shipping, 10-15% discount etc all work out about the same amount off when you look at the total order amount. Other offers we do, like a litre free with every 4/5L bought is a tricky one as oil manufacturers are basically unfair to bike owners. Fuchs Silkolene will every now and again donate free litre bottles so we can give them away with 5L of oil, Castrol do the same, but neither of them give us free litres of bike oil.

Another thing that often happens is that Guy or myself will often give a discount to make the sale or because someone is a good customer, if there is an offer on or not. So that's why 'normal' prices can be similar to sales ones.

Cheers

Tim

Oilman, what are the main differences between bike and car oil? I know lots of people use car oils in bikes, which car oils are ok and how can you tell?

Also, for cars is there actuall a difference between oil for diesels and oil for petrol cars? I have a diesel and normally pay a few quid more for diesel car oil.

normally car oil has added friction modifiers that can make bike clutches slip. some people may tell you they use car oil in their bikes no problem but thats the reason its not recommended.

There is the different level of friction modifiers between car and bike oils, and thats part of the reason a lot of bikers think bikes can't use a synthetic oil or the clutch will slip. A synthetic oil is more slippery than a mineral oil, so if a synthetic car oil is used, chances are the clutch will slip. If a synthetic bike oil is used, the correct level of friction modifiers are in the oil and it will be fine with wet clutches.

If you look at the back of a can of car oil, you should see an ACEA A and B spec, the A relates to petrol engines and the B is for diesels. Next to the letters there is a number indicating what ACEA specs it meets. You'll see the numbers are the same or similar, meaning they are as suitable for petrol engines as they are for diesel. You won't see oils that are A1/B5 or A5/B1. The thing about different detergent levels in diesel oil is wrong, it's still a petrol oil as well. If you see two oils from the same manufacturer, one saying 'for petrol engines' on the label and the other says 'for diesel engines', chances are it's the same stuff. Even if it isn't identical (as is is the case with the Castrol Edge TD and Edge), it's still suitable for petrol and diesel engines. They just charge a couple of quid extra for the diesel version.

Cheers

Tim

I understand that the price is cheap anyway, and that it does work out to the same, especially after delivery.

Anyway can you link me an air filter for a 2003 Kawasaki B1H, and decent spark plugs.

Just wondering what the price is for those delivered. Thanks.

Just found the spark plugs, what's the difference please.

Hi

The plugs that end with the EIX are iridium plugs and looking at the price difference, they are well worth the couple of quid over the standard ones as they should last a lot longer.

I don't think we can can supply the air filter, I can't find it via our suppliers.

The shipping to most of the UK is £4.74 for the plugs.

Cheers

Tim
