I wouldn't be to sure about those cameras not going up. They already have them over the thelwall viaduct, but I have seen yellow gantry things being erected which hold the cameras elsewhere. They do however only put these up where there is likely to be roadworks. Which incidentally, is the whole of the M6.
I'll be able to tell you tomorrow as I travel most of that section to Knutsford. |

As said the email you got there is a hoax, howevere the M6 does have the SPECS system on it and active (least I believe it is).
As you ride/drive along you will see the SPECS cameras on the side of the road.

Fair enough... I do tend to be pretty paranoid myself a lot of the time.
However as the wording in this 'warning' is directly taken from a known hoax/virus email, it'd be nice if you didn't distribute it further... in the end you're just continuing the virus.
The trick is not to ignore them, but to decide which are true, if you headed every dodgy claimed camera you'd be doing 30 on all motorways, just incase ... and to use your head when you're actually on the road... which in the end is the /really/ useful thing to do, cameras or no. |

Hi
For a bit of possibly good news I just found this on a forum.
| Quote: | I have just received news form the ABD of a very significant court victory yesterday. The case could have national ramifications and should be reported in the national media - here is the news so far:
Section 82 of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 to make the roads 'restricted' roads. Our contention was that the definition of a restricted road given in section 82(1), that a road is a restricted road by virtue of having a system of street lamps placed not more than 200 yards apart, could not be overruled by the subsequent subsection 82(2)(b), which gives authorities the power to make a road a restricted road if it is not one for the purposes of section 81 of the Act. This subsection, in our view, was only intended to be used if a road with street lights had lost its restricted road status in the course of a different speed limit being applied, and the highway authority wanted to make it a restricted road again.
Well, the test case was finally heard yesterday by a District Judge at Redditch Magistrates Court. It involved a driver having been caught at 42mph on a road which had previously had a 40mph speed limit, that had been reduced to 30mph using section 82 - and not a street light in sight. Our barrister outlined the case as above and the prosecution case rested almost entirely on an entry in 'Wilkinson', a legal reference work of interpretations of what various pieces of legislation mean.
The judge found in favour of our argument totally. He declared that
Wilkinson's interpretation of the legislation was wrong - he said it was clear that Parliament never intended it to be used to make roads into restricted roads that did not meet the basic definition, i.e. those having a system of street lamps. He said that to do so would mean 'driving a coach and horses through the concept of restricted roads'.
His most memorable comment was: "There can be no such thing, anywhere in this country, as a restricted road without street lamps."
He also accepted that, since the previous 40mph speed limit order had been rescinded, the only legal limit on the road was the national speed limit of 60mph, so the driver was acquitted.
We don't know whether Worcestershire County Council will appeal, but this is a very important judgment indeed, as we know for certain that Suffolk and Devon have used the same process to introduce 30mph limits on unlit roads, and we suspect the practice has been widespread across the country. It means that anyone convicted of exceeding these limits can now claim compensation, although we want to put pressure on the police to be pro-active and contact the drivers involved without waiting for claims. We will undoubtedly be issuing a press release and looking at other ways of publicising the result, including updating the current page on our website about illegal 30mph limits.
|
As I read this (and if it is true) it has just blown open most 30mph speed limits installed over the past few years. Basically it seems the judge has ruled that you cannot have a 30mph speed limit without street lighting. Furthermore if an unlit 30mph limit was previously a 40mph limit then the change to a 30 limit is not legitimate except to remove the previous 40 limit and restore it to a national speed limit.
If this is true then this will open a major can of worms. They will have to start refunding the speeding tickets and paying compensation to those prosecuted for breaking these non existant speed limits. If so expect a lot of the scamera partnerships to go bust. Furthermore if they do go bust then there is a possibility that the council members who supported the joining of the partnerships may be legally personally liable for the losses to the tax payer if they were warned that the scheme might expose the council to extra liabilities.
Being slightly vindictive I really do hope it is true.
All the best

Slightly off topic.
Does anyone know how much the new toll will be for bikes? I know that it is £2 for cars and £4 for vans.
To be honest, for someone who has to pay £4.60 to go over 200 metres of bridge every time I go anywhere out of Cardiff I would quite willingly pay £2 not to have to sit on the UKs longest car park (although I did get paid overtime for the one day I was stuck on the M6, after having delivered ONE shaft to our B'ham site, for four hours). ____________________ Avast!
