A mate and I are running off to Germany in May to spend the weekend going round in circles, but I haven't been able to make any sense of the insurance conundrum.

As it stands, I asked my current insurer (eBike) if I'd be insured at all tourist-driving on the 'Ring and got a snotty reply telling me to bugger off.

So, with that in mind, can anyone offer any sensible advice for insurance?

I've got to renew shortly so, discounting the holy grail of somewhere fully-comp on the 'Ring, I'd like to hear about entities who are prepared for at least third-party coverage so I'm legal and protected from huge armco bills if I make a mistake.

Specialist trackday insurance would also be a possibility, if they cover both me and third parties, as the handful I've checked actually don't.

Anyone got any bright ideas or war stories?

It's worth a quick look on here for some info: https://nurburgring.org.uk/
Pretty much every insurer will have a get-out clause for the 'ring (either naming it specifically, or prohibiting "one-way public toll roads") - so trackday insurance is the only way to go.
