Hiya all,

Im looking to get a new can for my R6 as the standard one is starting to make the bike look a bit...standard! Razz

The question is do I opt for a full system or just a can? Now as the R6 is still restricted performance is not of great importance. Now this almost completely rules out the full system, but I am under the impression they look better as they have better angles, or is this just something im seeing? Also would the full system be better for the bike?

Any reccomendations would be very welcomed.
Cougs.

Can only = £200ish.

Full system = £500ish.

Go figure.

Spend the money on something good, like a track day, so people notice the difference in your riding rather than what you're sitting on Smile. (Never mind the fun you'll have while doing it Smile .)

Most 'Slip On' cans are sold as no rejetting needed, while full systems usually do require some. There isn't much point getting a full system unless you're having soem engine work done that requires it to be honest.
A standard full system will look the same, unless it's a high level one. However I believe you can get high level slip on cans for the R6 with modified mid pipes.

Note that you'll have to put the standard can back on for Castle Coombe.. road legal noise limits only unfortunately Sad. Also they've got a weird system with only fifteen people on track at once or something Confused.

Think most systems will run absolutly pants, and have low top end speeds if the bike isn't rejetted to suit, and usually the carbs balanced as well.

My ZXR is running fairly badly at the minute at the top end, it's got a full micron system, but running standard jets Rolling Eyes

Cool, I'll probably just go for a can, I don't want a high level one that sits by the side of the pillion seat, they are a bit too tarty and cliche for my liking.

Anyway, I didnt realise Castle Coombe was as strict as that G, however I had heard their on track limit was as low as ten!

Yams,

Yeah I do, only crap ones like, hoping to get some better ones staged this weekend haha. I was going to post a few but dont know how to get them uploaded, any ideas?

By the way just incase any one knows, does dusty havy any spares or "extras" for his R6 at all? Id be interested to know what he has and what he would be willing to let go as singles.

G is absolutely right (as always), they are strick about the noise levels at Castle Coombe - something to do with how close it is to the village Confused
Still, if you do decide to go up there, let me know and I'll pop over and encourage/photograph you, because it's only 3 or 4 miles from my house Very Happy Cool

Hi

Race can = piss of the neighbours and have bugger all extra power (although it might screw up the bottom end power so that it feels better at the top end).

Full system = piss of the neighbours and maybe have some more power if it is set up correctly.

Cynically yours

Keith

I would have aso suggested another mod like down gearing, better tyres, braided hoses, etc, etc.

However when I had the ZX6 I stuck the Art can on to see if it made a difference, and told my self I'd stick the normal one back on.... to start with I'd rather not alert 'certain' people (who may have radar guns close by) to the fact that I was approaching at high speed. The original only ever stayed of for a short time though because I just liked the sound too much Smile Confused.

Well, I would rather they would stop a potential bike thief rather than be happy that the noise was being nicked.

Also, as G mentioned, a noisy can gives them plenty of time to get ready with the radar gun.

All the best

Keith

There are good and bad points to race cans, but I never thought I'd hear many people arguing that they aren't good or anything though.

Fair play to you, I've just fitted my road legal micron too but mainly for performance purposes (wasnt rejetted, long story lol)

I do have some bits and pieces, but quite a lot of the extras I've purchased are on the bike such as - double bubble screen, braided hoses, Akrapovic carbon race can, carbon pads, recessed tail light undertray, renthal hardened brass 14/50 520 sprockets, EK 520 chain, short throw throttle, alarm, suoer corsas etc and will go with the bike as I can't be bothered to remove anything + if Luke does have it I reckon he'll want these bits.

Other stuff I have -

Yamaha single seat con (colour matched by me)
Various other Renthal sprockets (15t 16t x2 48t 49t)(most 520 pitch)
Rear EBC HH pads(new)
Harris zorst hanger
Black 02 lowers
Spare tank (dented Neutral )
Spare lever set (anodized blue Embarassed )(new)
Rear shock (damaged mount)
Spare tail unit (red)
original rear light
Abus stand adaptors(new)
Spare pegs
Sprocket carrier
Gear retention spring(new)
Various mini indicators
Right hand side panel (damaged)(got it free)
Standard throttle grip
Paddock bobbins

Think that's about it, not sure if anything would be any use to you, changing your gearing for my sprockets would require you to get a new chain as well, but if you want anything make me an offer. Smile

Most slip on cans give roughly the same performance gains. while full systems can deliver double the increase, but really make a difference if you change the filter and go for a power commander. this will cost around 800 quid all in so its a good option if youre minted. 800 quid will also get you a great trip round france in the summer !!!!!!!
Devil do a mean high level , either single or twin stacked cans, slip on if its looks you want.
depends how well your boss lines your pockets every week really !!!!! Razz

Hi

A can will give a tiny increase in power. Look at the reviews and they are almost always less than 5% power gain which most people could not feel. You might feel it if you loose a load of mid range at the same time so the bike gains a more noticeable power band.

As mentioned a full system can give you a fair amount of extra power, but the bike will need careful setting up to get that.

There are exceptions. For example the 1200 Bandit has a very restrictive silencer and serious gains can easily be made with the exhaust.

All the best

Keith

I wouldn never fit a race can/system to my bike for power gain purposes. I can't ride the thing to it's limits anyway so more power is wasted. Most people fit race cans for 1) the soujnd and 2) the looks

That's just my opinion though, there may be people who do care about the power gains.

My bike has had a full Micron system without a rejet and because of that it seems to be runnig very lean and doesn't want to go past 80 mph?? It was also misfiing/spluttering and sounded very choked.

So I fitted the road legal micron, the spluttering has stopped and the revs are a lot better, but it still won't go psat 80mph ish! I think it's because the carbs still aren't set up right

Hi

Probably needs setting up correctly. Can you get it past 80 by revving it out hard in the lower gears? Is it just a large flat spot caused by the system.

My only real experience of a Micron 4 stroke system was on the old FZ750. On these they are known for causing a really bad flat spot between 3000 and 4000rpm.

All the best

Keith

when caning it up the gears it'll go up to about 90mph, then if i try and hold the speed it gradually drops until the throttle is pinned in 3rd/4th doing 65ish! fucking annoying

Dusty,

Had fun reading that little list! My bike has a full set of Renthal chain and sprockets as it is so Im not after anything like that. However I would be interested in the black lowers if they are in good nick and ive been searching for a decent single seat unit for ages, but have had problems deciding if it would fit with everything I intend to do, so id deffo take that, you got any more info on it?

Cheers
Cougs.
