Hey everyone Embarassed

Topping up the bike this morning when my son started talking to me... next thing I know... 750ml (Approx) has gone wondering into the engine Evil or Very Mad
Now I don't know how much was in there to start with exactly but im fairly sure it didn't require 750ml chucking in Rolling Eyes

Running out of time to get to work I gently rode it the 5 miles (?) to work hoping the engine wouldn't try and kill me. No loss in power (is there power in a CG?) and no odd smoke from the exhaust... good I thought...

Got to work jumped off the bike and all I could hear is a "Hissing" noise coming from (at a guess) the sump plug area. No oil came out that I can see and it all looked pretty good but obviously not the noise...

Suggestions? Obviously short answer is oil out and new oil in but I haven't got the time to do it and I need the bike Sunday and Monday to commute to work...

Damage done? Hissing noise indicates?...
Help please oh wonderful people of BCF Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Bry

I know overfilling can over-pressurise the engine and cause gaskets to go, or so I've heard anyway. I would seriously be thinking about draining the oil and filling again, make time if you haven't got any.

Do you think the over pressurised engine would cause the "Hissing"? Just wonder if I can eeeeeeeek it over the next couple of days or do I NEED to make time for an oil change?..

Thinking about it... I would ESTIMATE at most its 500ml over... more likely 250ML over though... (Based on a 1L capacity)...

Obviously the challenge arrises that how much to drain... or drain the lot and refill correctly. Both though can't really be done here at work.

I travel 5 (10 <->) Miles a day approx, I (would of thought) that the 5 mile journey here would of shown any problems? or am I just being optimistic?

If the bike only hold 1 litre and you may have put 1.5 litres in that is quite an overfill.

Have you checked the oil level?

Hey cheers for your help Thumbs Up

Checked oil using dipstick and its above max mark, approx 1/4 at most up the stick itself.

I was hoping that based on a 5 mile journey and no damage so far it might be ok? (although the hissing is worrying...(

Attached a picture of where it falls on the dipstick. This is APPROX as the engine is stone cold currently. The black line is where it is now, red line is where it was after the 5 mile journey (Although not straight away)...

This is the thing, every where I read says it should be smoking or loss of power, neither of which (in 5 miles) happened. The ONLY symptom that Its overfilled was a hissing noise which no one seems to be able to explain?

*confused*

Sarcastic answer or serious?.. If sarcastic then forgive me if I'm not as educated as you in bike maintainance and repairs, Can't all be perfect Rolling Eyes

If serious then you reckon it'll all be ok?

That will be fine. I have overfilled more than that before.

I am not taking any responsibility if it blows up but I would ride that home then sort it.

Just take it easy, change gear low down, don't rev above 5k if you can help it etc. I ran my last gs with loads of extra oil because I wasn't watching and it was alright.

the crankcase will have a breather hole anyway so no you wont be overpressurising it.

the only bad thing that may happen is if you REALLY overfill it (which you havnt done) the crank may get dipped in the oil which will froth up the oil, that really isnt good.

but yeah, i would ride it home and just drain the whole lot into a clean jug and pour the right amount back in.
