Past my test last tuesday, just getting to grips with my R6 (2000) but OMG these bikes are silly fast!

This is thee most fun i think i will ever have with my pants up!

Just thought id share my thoughts as a newbie to those in the stupid process of getting the licenses!

All the trying to get time of work, Mod1/Mod2's getting dates cancelled and being messed around has all paid off!

Not sure if I am just cool, or the RS was a very good bike, but I jumped on the 636 and went pretty fast, even a stoppie and enjoyed it.

My friend who came off a CBR 125 and YZF R125 kept putting his Gixxer 600 in mode c which is like 400CC at first, and rarely on mode A, the 600 CC mode at all until a week or so.

Basically, maybe you're not use to the high end rev = high end power.

On the straights just pin it and you'll get use to it in no time, but do not die!

Give it 3 months and you'll be thinking it feels slow and eyeing up every passing R1.

YES but its a differant kind of power.. the r6 is a fun thuggish power but the r1 is a "i need to sell this bike before i die or lose my licence power"

i loved my r6 and had more fun on that than the r1. btw make sure you open it up over 10k thats where the fun starts...

My step from a clr125 to a zxr400 was scary enough.

But after a week, and some new rubber i settled into it.

Do,

take it easy
enjoy it
remember you will only go as fast as you twist the throttle
learn where the "power band" is (usually at the top end of the rev range) cos you dont want to be caught out.

Dont,

die
fuck it up
crash
get 6 points cos you can loose your licence
give it beans with cold tyres or in the wet
race cars until you get to grips with the bikes other wise the some of the 1st 4 "donts" will happen.

From what i have read,

the R6 is made for the track and is fab on it.
But this lets it down on the road. It isnt design to handle the many imperfections and will throw off a rider who isnt too clever.

This is why there are more R6's in breakers yard than many others Very Happy

nah i dont think that. they just seem to make you ride like a pratt..
but there soooo much fun. i dont understand all this thing about their built for the track i never had any problems. yes if i rode crazy i can understand why it was getting twitchy. the only issue i had was the old tank slapper problem when powering off out of bends that shit me up many a time...

I think the cost is silly for a damper, but if i can avoid 'tank slapping' i think it will be worth the money,
I am inexperienced. I could carried away
