Hello, my name is Jennifer Fielden, I am doing an A level in product design and I am going to be designing a specialist camera for motorbikes, for people who ride individually on track days. So this questionnaire will help me find out what people want from a motorbike camera and would appreciate it if you would take your time and fill it in.

I suspect in reality it doesn't matter for A-Levels, but...
You need to do some research in to trackdays.

Few people do them more than once a week regularly (presuming we're talking about tarmac circuit ones).

Pretty much no trackdays will offer more than 4 hours riding time and you probably wouldn't want to unless you're training for an endurance race.

Not many people choose just one company to buy their 'accessories' from.

Your price range not only misses out a load of amounts (I'm sure that was covered in GCSE maths ) but isn't too realistic for a British designed camera. You can actually get cameras for under £10, but if you look at the higher end, they can easild be from £160 to £700 or so - so need more differentiation in there.

I'll tell you about myself and you can use the date as you feel like.

Generally do three or four (tarmac) trackdays a year at the moment - maybe six off road and a load of of off-road races too last year.
I always stay out for all sessions if I can - that's usually 7 x 15 minutes or so.
I sometimes use an on-board camera, there's always a photographer from the company there but I never buy the pictures. Often have a friend taking photos.

I have bought many cameras for various bikes and no doubt will in the future. Don't see the point in a stills camera for on-bike stuff for track riding.

I'd want a camera I can move around. For instance a head camera gives an interesting perspective of the rider's view; but a camera mounted to the right hand side body work often gives dramatic cornering shots.

My main track motorbike is a Triumph. I also have a Suzuki, KTMs, Beta, Kawasaki, Honda and a few others. Accessories will be bought based on their merit, not the brand.

The price I'd pay for a camera would depend on it's quality and features. Most I've paid is around £550. I'd want hi-resolution wobble-free video mostly. Remote start stop and remote indication the camera is running. Options to have a wide angle or not. High speed filming (for slow motion replays) and it to come with a lot of mounting options. I also like the idea of the cameras that have a GPS built-in; but less of an issue for track riding.

Depends what I'm after. Cheap camer I'd want as cheap as possible, good quality anything up to maybe £150

Definitely HD, no wobbly video like G says (vibration from the engine can make the cheaper cameras take videos that look wobbly), a decent microphone that doesn't end up recording just wind noise after about 40mph.

It would also appear more professional to refer to them as 'Motorcycles' rather than 'Motorbikes' because 'Motorbike' is widely accepted as a colloquialism.

'Motorcycle' is the correct term, even if it does sound a little silly.
