At the moment i have two bikes, one on the road and one off the road. the one i use is with me in england and the one thats off the road is in scotland in a garage in a million pieces.

anyway i got a tax/sorn reminder for the bike and got my mum to post it down to here so i can sorn it. filled out the form and posted it. this was back in october. I received a letter (sent from my other home in scotland) today saying that i now owe them £80 (£40 if i pay now) plus a £5.50 arrears duty.
sadly since it was ages ago i dont even have the receipt showing that i sent it so they can just claim i didnt send it.

im going to give them a call in the morning but seing as its a government establishment i imagine that im fucked.

There was a thread about this a few months back. I think they have to prove that you didnt post it.

well i've filled in another sorn declaration form that i got with the letter and wrote on the return letter that i applied for a sorn back in november (tax ran out on halloween) and that the bike is in several peices since july and hadnt been on the road for nearly a year and told them i am sending them a second decleration form.

only problem i can forsee is that they say if you dont receive a confirmation and you dont respond you are at fault

Wrong, old stuff, you only need to state you posted it and that's the end of the matter, it's now case-law. Tell those fraudulent, lying, parasite scum to do one.
