Hi,
I'm riding to Germany in Jan 13 can anyone please let me know what the compulsory motorcycle equipment I will need Question as I'm aware it's changing 1st Jan 13.
And it's my first time so should be fun
Route looking at taking is though the Netherlands in Germany

Besides from your documents, just take a high visibility vest, and some spare bulbs. If you were going through France you'd want a breathalyser too.

Chatting to a cab driver when I was in Munich today and he said that bikes were not allowed to filter even static cars... Worth checking for certain.

Yes; overtaking is strictly on the left. Holding to this discipline is in part how the autobahn can be unrestricted speed in parts. If you filter through Germany, you'll likely get told off by the law at least once, though probably not actually fined etc. However drivers may take it upon themselves to enforce the law more physically. They don't like anyone getting ahead when they can't, and will try to hit you.

Filtering is not allowed in Germany, but in the 8+ time i've been riding in Germany you have nothing to worry about. Just like everywhere else in the Europe if there are tail backs the cars will physically move out of the way for you. I even had the Polizei move out of the way for me in Munchen.

You should do really, but check your bike though. Many don't actually kick-up to the left, and have a flat beam.

Position your bike in front of a wall or garage and check the beam pattern.

If you see it kicking up at an angle, just tape over the offending area. Don't waste cash on buying proper stickers.

I do Holland and Germany every October. I only take my docs, spare bulbs and a punture kit. My mate lives in Holland and works in Germany as a bike mechanic and on one over there has any extra kit under the seat. Only time the police will pull you is if you ride like a cock. I dont use the stickers on the headlamp as i dont ride in the dark over there. If you think you will be then you can get the sticker in the likes of Halfords.
