Four minutes in, and all I can hear is this subliminal "owl! owl! owl! owl!, which of course, to my permanently damaged id sounds like "Ow".

New Queens of the Stoneage

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Exa0CzlCb3Y

Sounds like Them Crooked Vultures which isn't really that surprising.

Still wish they would go more old school stoner rock like they used to.

Eeeesh, I got to 09 seconds before he screamed and I just went "Click", Interested button off.

I need to know: Does that shouty stuff bring hairs up the back of people's neck, the same way that, say, listening to the bright blare of a trumpet, the weep of a violin, or a really throbby bass sound on a rock track, does for me. How? Does it raise calm or aggressive emotions? I'm genuinely fascinated to understand what emotions/sensations it motivates, other than irritation (me).

I imagine it would just make one more angry, ready to go out and head butt someone. Or does it wear down the rough edges of one's jangling nerve endings, till you barely even hear it any more?

I've loved metal and all shouty death screamy stuff since I was about 12/13. I can't tell you what the love for it is founded on. I was just swung in that direction by my peers and activities (I was a skater greebo type; think big baggy hoody and jeans with a chain hanging off the belt loop... Come to think of it; I still am!).
Some songs evoke sheer elation. Y'know where you could flail your body around until 90% of your tendons are barely attached.
Some songs evoke deep calm and collectedness.

You'll read/hear many a people say that they associate with metal because it flows alongside their anger that they need to release.
Complete opposite for me.
Metal gives me a feeling of pure serenity but with a very energetic vibe.
Lyrically I couldn't give a toss what they're shouting about. I don't listen to lyrics. I don't care for messages or cryptic hints of emotion. All I care for is that the entire ensemble of sound resonates through me and makes me feel pumped, and happy.

So yeah; you could say the hairs on the back of my neck are raised.
It also raises a certain level of aggression, happiness, positive mental thoughts and generally gives me something to sustain a good perspective on life. If I'm feeling shit, generally listening to my favourite songs elates me to a point where I say "Wtf was I even bothered about?"

Music that evokes actual negative annoyance and anger for me is 90% of what you hear on the radio: Nicki Minj and Rhianna and all that shite that relies on sexual lyrics and a mundane beat to please your average mindless cunt.

But anyway... Waffling aside: the particular song I posted was something I stumbled across back in ~2006 at school and only this week I stumbled across it again. Very much a blast from my not-so-distant past!

Indeed.
It was produced by Sick Mark Ronson Sick

Still, at least some of Homme's geetar got through. Having heard the rest of the album, it doesn't blow me away. Still worth a few listens through.

Nice, first EPs are very good too! Certainly need to be played loud. Glad you're enjoying it.
