I like the top floor Academy too, infact all 4 Academys have put on some great acts...Ahhh happy memories of getting the key to the massive disabled toilet for refreshment breaks...

Currently blasting this.

80's indie-pop band Pop will eat itself, at the time fronted by the now bigtime soundtrack composer Clint Mansell.
Great cover of Orgone Accumulator.

Listening (and watching) Led Zep celebration day, No quarter with a nice double malt whiskey and some extra mature cheddar. Shortly to be followed by a similar beverage and Kashmir. What could be better on a Wednesday night with no work tomorrow?

Discussion time; I sub to a guitar channel or two on the utube and recently a band called Greta Van Fleet have popped up.

https://youtu.be/7RrDmjEazcM

So, they're a Led Zep-alike band who still smell of mother's milk...but it's not so much the music or the fact their balls are bald, it's because they don't rock.

No danger.

Or should I just relax and move on....

No, they're too sanitised, they are the husks of rock music and should be upto the stoppers deep instead of dry humping. Smile

I like a couple of their tracks - back to basics. Their problem is that they're too Zep-a-like, as far as they go at least. But also, the guitarist hasn't half the range and eclecticism of Jimmy Page (violin bows, anyone? Smile ), even when Zep were new.

So I have said to myself, wait a few years and see if they're still around. Perhaps they'll develop into something more interesting. I'm not holding my breath, but you never know.

Today, having said that ( Smile ), it's back (?) to good ol, hard-drivin' rock n roll:

Yeah it's pretty shit. I much prefer the group photo in the gate-fold sleeve.

As for what they were actually thinking I honestly reckon they had very little say in the artwork - the first they probably saw of it was when the first pressing of 10,000 had already ended up on the shelves. Back then, I think labels sought to ensure that bands were kept away from as many decisions as possible.

Of course, this still leaves the question of what Vertigo or whoever were thinking, i.e. the art dept. at the label. And for that I have absolutely no idea whatsoever. By contrast the over of the first LP is excellent.

They mention it on the Classic Albums episode. They wanted something that would represent a 'War Pig' (the Album's original name was 'War Pigs' - the American record company rejected it). So they got a guy in a superhero costume to hold a sword. They realised it looked pap but they had to choose something quick and didn't have any alternatives, so they picked one of the blurry rejected pictures so nobody could see what the original pic was actually of.

Ta for that. Must watch it. Thumbs Up

@TscG yeah what were the Art dpt thinking....'wrinkly pink tights and purple under-crackers?' YES! Now pass me that bong.

I've dropped a couple of bollocks judging by my recent buys...

John Mayer - Continum. Skim read an interview and a few reviews ages ago...remembered the name and thought...yeah! it's the bloke who used to be in the buzzcocks...decent price...I'll 'ave that.Doh!

Nope. It is 'a good' LP, as say 'Joshua Tree' is good but I hate the Joshua tree album. Laughing
One track is half alright...A Hendrix'esque mash of Axis Bold as Love. The chap is an excellent singer and knows his way around a guitar.

Then this.

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Dqg6LTLX4AAP7us.jpg

It's the latest EP by Drenge.

It's meh...the vocals delivered in the same manner. Feels like they needed to tour these new songs and then fire them out all sharp and pointy.

I need to hear it either in car a full chat with a bag of yellow whizz in the glovebox and jellies down socks or on a good club system to really fall for it. Laughing

I jest...Daz carried the powders....and I only injected LSD...never inhaled.

So...yeah..Everybody should get this LP. It's what the cool kids are into.

The teaser tracks they released are the worst of the album. I strongly reccomend 'Boom Boom Tap'. It's awesome.
